Tundra takes Sierra?
General Motors reports that the Sierra has sold 115,185 units year-to-date. The figure, however, includes 2006 and 2007 models of the Sierra 1500, Sierra 2500 (three-quarter ton), Sierra 3500 (one-ton) and even the 2007 Sierra “Classic” based on the older GMT800 platform. GM doesn’t break down the sales numbers for the Sierra by model, so Levine got creative and used production numbers for each model from both 2005 and 2006 to extrapolate what percentage of this year’s sales the Sierra 1500 model was likely to be. Assuming the Sierra 1500 represents about two-thirds of all Sierra sales, that would mean GM sold 76,700 units of the truck during the first seven months of 2007. The Tundra, meanwhile, sold 105,990 units, of which 97,290 were the all-new 2007 Tundra. Based on an “apples-to-apples” comparison in sales between half-ton models, it would then seem the 2007 Toyota Tundra easily outsold GMC Sierra 1500 to become the #4 best-selling half-ton pickup in the U.S.
This also goes along with the fact that the Big 3 lost more than 50% of the US market in sales.

OK, even though the numbers say otherwise, this “enlightened” journalist has managed to distort things so that it could look like GM’s premier brand of pickup is being outsold by the toyota turdna. Let’s see, if we don’t count the non-extra cab toyotas as being sales (toyota didn’t really want to sell those, anyway), and we only count the 5.7L engine-equipped turdnas (this is the only engine that toyota touts in its ads), then the Sierra would outsell the turd by a HUGE amount. This article is so clearly anti-American biased, it should only appear in the likes of the toyota house-magazine. Come on, can anyone really take this article seriously? The author takes on what can only be described as a pro-japanese agenda when he refuses to count the true sales of one vehicle. Let’s also refuse to count toyota’s japanese homeland sales, as this is a market that is disallowed to GM by the japanese government.

Man will somebody create a forum called fullsizejaptruck.com! I don’t care if toyota sold more trucks, all I know is I will still be my driving chevy for a long time while them rice burners will have kick the bucket. If you love Toyoto’s move to japan and support there economy over there.
Comment by BigJohnson on 5 August 2007:
I agree with porker. They should rethink their method of gathering stats. The only way the Tundra is going to be able to compete with a Silverado/Sierra 1500 is if its equipped to its highest level, or at least with the 5.7L. Otherwise, the other vehicles sold aren’t sold to perform to new 1/2 ton truck standards.

Will somebody create a forum called fullsizejaptruck.com so i can smash my computer and rip my eye balls out!! I would buy two Toyotas, one to shit on, and one to cover it up

I agree completely with u guys. My roommates dad owns a new Tundra. It kinda does look like a turd. That ugly ass rear window. WTF? Anyways Ive owned both Toyota and Chevy trucks and if you are buying a full size truck, domestic trucks are the way to go. If u are comparing say a Colorado to a Tacoma; the Tacoma makes the Colorado look like shit, because it is shit. It doesn’t perform like a mid size truck should. The ride, power, and most importantly the price are a much better deal if you go with the Domestic brands. Besides most of the Toyota shit is made in Mexico like our trucks so all the people that think they are better because the are Japanese made are misinformed. And what gets me pissed of the most is these f-ing magazine writers. They are so biased toward import vehicles saying that they’re so much better then our trucks and cars.
god damn it now im pissed off. lol

There is alot all these articals dont tell the people reading. My uncles brother-in-law works for tayota, he when on to tell me the new full size trucks are having really bad crank problems, they “think” they have most worked out. THINK, id want a little more the THINK. He also told me that they have been getting a lot of complains of the rear frame, It keeps cracking. GM has most problems worked out, thats not to say they dont have problems but they had many many years of full size experince.

I agree with porker, the fact that this so called journalist got creative with the numbers for the Sierra but didn’t use the same creativeness on the tundra numbers shows how biased they are. Also according to a new tundra owner I used to work with the 07 tundras with the 5.7 is supposed to be able to compete with a 2500, total bull****, but if thats the case then the 2500 numbers should be included in their extrapolation.

Guys, why are we even wasting our time talking about the toyota! The truck is not worth everybody’s time and/or comments!
Comment by NDBoost on 13 August 2007:
I actually like the tundra….

I’m a Chevy man. I’ve driven one or been carted around in one since I was born. You guys are nutts if you don’t think the Tundra is an awesome truck. I’ve driven both the Chevy and the Toyota. The Toyota flat out gets it. The methodology used by the journalist is a very reasonable, objective way to look at the numbers. Toyota has a 1500 truck that can stand toe-to-toe with anything out there. Period. You guys mentioned some of the possible problems with the release. I’d much rather take a vehicle to a Toyota dealership than a crappy Chevy dealership any day of the week. Quit living in a fantasy world. The big-3 has just lost its last strangle-hold on a market segment.

I went Toyota shopping in July 2007. Wanted to buy the new Tundra Crew Max 4×4 fully loaded. The So. Cal. dealers had none in stock and said “Everyone wants this truck! If you want one I will take your name. BTW it will be MSRP.” MSRP on that truck was $46.5K! (dealer quote in San Jose, CA). So I did some research. WTF, MSRP on a fully loaded Silverado 2500HD Duramax 4×4 Crew Cab was $53K. By Aug with 2007$3.5K cash back, the price was $49.5K. When I did the Math for ~3K more, I got 365 hp, with 660 lb tork, 3/4 ton, and better fuel economy than Toyota. Even if you forget the discouning off of MSRP $6.5K buys you alot more truck as compared to the Toyota. Plus with the Duramax you still get to buy some Japanese quality. Granted the Tundra has some cool features that outshine the Silverado, but the bottem line is no diesel.

“Toyota has a 1500 truck that can stand toe-to-toe with anything out there. Period.”
really? I watched a comparison video online between the silverado 1500 and the tundra 1500. The toyota had horrible tires, horrible handling in wet conditions, and the differential was virtually useless in off-roading conditions. The silverado greatly excelled in all of the tests shown in the video. Go ahead, say its biased because I’m sure someone will, but whether in fact the vid was or wasn’t biased, still the fact remains that the silverado can undergo real life conditions much better than the tundra. All they did with the tundra is slap a huge 5.7L engine in it and say it beats a 1500 ford, dodge, and chevy truck when they all have less displacement in their engines. If you want a truck specifically for towing or hauling, why not just go to a 2500 or diesel (chevy or gmc)? Youre getting the same power PLUS a solid drivetrain system. In my opinion, toyota just took a shortcut and made a big engine that can tow and haul better than the competitors and called it “the best truck,” which isnt the case at all.

Im curious as to why people are even considering buying the new Tundra. It makes no sense to me. I just bought an 07 silverado a week ago and love the truck. It has the 4.8 liter in it and runs great. The toyota may be able to pull a few more pounds than I can, who cares. If I wanted to pull the weight the Toyota claims it can pull I would want to have an HD. There is no way I would pull 10,000 lbs on a regular basis with a 1/2 ton truck. There is nothing I would want to tow with the Toyota that I could not tow with the Chevy.
Comment by sooners7gators2 on 10 January 2008:
1.The Chevy looks 100% better than that space ship Toyota calls a truck. The cab and the bed do not even meet flush on the Toyota?????
2.The Silverado is much cheaper than the Toyota.
3.Look at the crash test numbers. The Toyota came in last in 1/2 ton trucks.
4.The interior in the new Chevrolet is amazingly clean. Toyota haulted production on its new Tundra because it saw Chevy’s new interior and made changes before the Truck came out.
5.What type of person who works by using a truck would want a Toyota. People like farmers and construction workers would never buy a Toyota. If some of them do end up buying one they will be extreemly pissed in about two years.
Bottom line is that Toyota should have stuck to what it is good at; small trucks and cars. Building a full size is retarded. Their sales may be better than GM’s now, just wait a few years and it will all change.
Remember that Chevrolet does have a huge problem. Their trucks are built so well that people can keep them for a very long time and have no need to buy new ones. I have a 95 Tahoe that has 225000 miles on it. Still runs great. I do not know of one toyota that could be put through what the Tahoe has been though and still run.
