Valve Wiring Question

How do you get the wires into the cab from each valve? Do you run them straight to the switch box or through a fuse panel?

Ill have my 8 valves, 2 at each corner, and my 2 dual needle gauges to hook up. Im making a switch panel to go into a center console Im building that I will run the wires to to work the valves. Im just wondering if you need to fuse the wires running to the valves? And do you just run one straight wire from each valve to the switch panel or do you run them to a panel in the cab and then from that panel to the switches?

I have my valves grounded right near the valve, and my power wires from each come together and go into the corner of my cab. I then have a fuse block with a fuse for each valve. I have it in my soon to be console. Easy access, and I don't have to get out the truck to replace a fuse if it is blown.

Ok...here is the reason that I asked what I did. Some valves take more amps than others do to operate the coil. Some switches can handle more amps than others do.

If i were you I would run a 9 wire cable from a relay box to your switches. The reason for using a relay on each valve is that the switch is only being used to trigger the relay...and doesn't have to take the full brunt of the soleniod. It's much safer this way..and it's the only way to wire anything but hydro switches IMO.

where can I pick up a relay box and 9-wire cable? They are SMC 3/8 valves if it matters for the current

The 9 wire cable can be had at just about any competent electrical shop...it has a name...but it's slipped my mind right now...as for the relay box....you have to build it! 8 relays...

I hate to ask, but could you be a bit more specific on what kind of relays are needed? I was looking at McMaster-Carr and they have like 10 pages of relays and I have no idea what Im looking for.

The ones that I use are spst pc mount relays that can handle up to like 15 amps I wanna say. But if you know nothing about soldering I'd look into some regular old relays. You don't need anything super hugely special. but anything other than a spst is a waste of money.

Yeah...you could...you would just need a big old box to mount them and the wiring in. You won't use a pole on it though since it's a double throw.
