I took my '96 Z-71 into a reputable transmission shop (which did my tranny rebuild) the other day to get the 'humming' I was hearing looked at.
To make a long story short, they said that I had some wear in the rear end, but nothing that would 'fail' in the next year or so. They did a service, put a bottle of something that cost $22 in it and said to monitor it and that I'd know when I was having real issues.
Now, I guess the question is, the hum is obviously still there, but is a complete rebuild necessary? Is there an easy alternative to a $1700 rebuild job? (like a complete swap, etc)
Note: The rear end does not look like what's in other 1500's. It's an exact replica of the 2500 rear end. Was this an option in '96?
Thanks for any help!
