amps mounted in door panels?

Im trying to map out my stereo system so I can plan my interior out and do it all at once. I was trying to find a good place for my amps and I was thinking since Im suiciding the doors and making new panels why not flushmount them under the armrest in the door panel? So when the door closes you wont be able to see them because they will be between the seat and the door. But at shows or whatever the doors would be open exposing them.

My main concern is the constant opening and slamming shut of the doors could have a negative effect on the amps operation.

Other options would be frenched into the sub box behind the seats or mounted under the seats.

I like the idea, but Yea i agree and heaven forbid you ever havea leak in the door water+ amp=NO NO..lol

What about in the headliner? sounds stupid but make the rack mount to the roof and at shows you pull the rack down?

i have seen this and really like it, put them in the dash, on the top since your doing a custom one off dash anyway (still doing that right?)

-yea water would be another concern but I wonder if I could make them in a semi-waterproof yet breatheable box

the only way you could be 100% that the amps would get no water would be to contain them in plexi or plastic and have grommets where the wires come out

maybe make a center console and up front where the console meets the dash have on the sides and top a piece of clear plexi, and have them amps mounted in there so if you have three, each amp will be seen from each window..hard to explain

OOOOO, I got it, this might sound ricer, but on Fast and the Furious he had to pull the passanger seat for the NOS bottles
maybe make it like that, raise the seats up a few inches and have the driver seat have one amp on the floor or on a stand that will look good and the other amp bolts to the back of the bottom of the seat..

that i think would be trick

I saw them frenched into the back of the seats once. It looked sweet and they tipped the seats forward to show it.

center console idea wont work...i have too much stuff there already and Idont want to clutter up my interior with amps if possible. Im sorta doing a stealth install like you see on alot of street rods.
As for the seat idea I like it...I was thinking about mountin them on sliders so they would be able to slide out from under the seat but the flip up seat idea is even better.

shoot if your going for the clean look, then yea in the back or in the under part of the seat..i would suggest more my idea cause i think if they were frenched into the back of the seats there isnt going to be alot of air travel to them and i bet they are going to get hot..slidding out from under the seats is a good diea except for that tiem you have to lock up the brakes..i have a feeling the amps are going to come slamming out and get you in the back of the ankle..that aint going to feel good

I think a badass fiberglass amp rack at the front of the bed would be sweet.

hey man on regular plain jane modern amps like jls an punch that have surface mounted parts it wont be a problem to have them slamming with the door because the impact wont shake anything loose....but with top of the line amps like pg,zapco,mac's an shyt like that have like 150 actual parts that love to come off an short out when they are slammed against shyt...then yes you might have a problem after awhile but it can be done if you want it..

an here is a million dollar idea for you...just cut an sink the amps into the floor board on the passenger side an then cover them with a back lighted piece of etched plexiglass now thats some hot shyt right there man killer install all the way trust me....poof :piggy:

Doors are bad spots for amps Jimmy. The added Weight, water as mentioned, and the way you would have to mount the power, speaker, and rca;s and the door constantly closing on them.

Ventilation would be an issue as well. You might also consider that the depth of them may interfer with the seat size as well.

yup yup, and thats why i think mount them where the bottom eat comes up cause you can raise the seat up a few inches and have plent of clearance

Jimmy, I rememebr you sayong your not running a/c. Man if you go that route there is a lot of room behind the dash for unique mounting options. Talk about out of sight out of mind.

I was going to mount them vertically at the front of the bed but since I raised my floor up so much I dont have much room. Plus I have been considering cusomizing the bed and leaving it open.

cool idea but with the stock floor bodydrop I only have about 5" from my floorpan to the ground. And I still need to run exhaust and more crossmembers down there

well compared to the weight of a complete door the amp wont be TOO big of a deal, I think I may be able to take care of the water problem by sealing them from behind, and yea the wires could be a problem too. In addition the suicide hinges may get in the way of the spot I want to put them. And I think I should have enough room for my seats...thanks for the thoughts though-all good points.

yea Im still going to try and keep my ac if I can when I do the ls1 swap if I can. Although depending on my wheel size I may need to tub the firewall and the whole HVAC unit may need to go. So If that happens I will have plenty of room back there

it sounds like its going to be hot regardless of where you put it, if its going to be a all out show truck, somewhere where they can be seen and custom would be good, if its not going to be seen, just hide em under the seats where i said, or mount them on the rear wall..

i say up in the headliner. not seen so often and looks pretty sweet. in the dash always looked kinda of tacky to me, dont know why but i remember seeing one truck with about 4 amps in the dash flushed in. nice work but looks god aweful.

head liner gets my vote, or standard flushed in on the back wall always looks nice

i like teh headliner idea, the CST 2001 chevy has em in the headliner, looks nice. maybe have a custom rack around em or somethin.

LS6TT's 2 fast 2 furious idea is cool, but unless you had a good amount of space under the seats, woudlnt your butt get really hot and leather/cloth start getting ruined?

Hydrolic ram would be sweet, press a button, and they push out into the floor boards:cool:

when he does it, depending on how many amps, lf he has 4 then thats perfect, he might have to raise the seat a few inches, but when he takes the bottom of the seat just remove the covering and add a piece of plywood and then recover
should get hot at all, not enough to bother him

i was sitting in my cab last night as i was hanging my new doors I realized that the f&f seat idea would be sorta hard. My bottom of my seat goes way under the back part. So I would have to do some work on the cushion so it would clear the back part,


Ive seen some headliner installs that look good and some that dont...I still might do that too

the seat idea wouldne be super hard, what you would have to do is pretty much make a bottom seat bracket, cut the bottom part off and hinge it..easier to say then do I know, but its possible
