Who is using a aftermarket high flow MAF ? Are they worth it? Also, what about de-screening the stock MAF?

I would love your advice.

Thanks

I wouldn't mess w/ the MAF as the effects could be detrimental to how your engine runs. Although some say there are benefits in descreening; many have had problems w/ running rich(I think). Also, high flow MAFs (ie. Granetelli) are only effective in the upper RPM range, so unless you are at WOT all the time, there wouldn't be much of a performance increase. This is just my $0.02. If you can get one for a very decent price you could try it out, but don't go shelling out big $$ for this mod.

PS: How do you like the Thorley headers? I've been thinking about getting those after I finish appearance and suspension upgrades and as $$ permits, of course. ttyl

I love the Thorleys. Like any header install, it was a bitch. You will like them, but make sure you get the ceramic coated too>

Thx for the info and there's no way I would get headers if the weren't ceramic coated or if I was going to get them coated myself.

That's it...I wasn't sure if it was rich or lean. Thx for the correction.

That is what I was afraid of running lean. I believe the other problem I have right now is that I have the Volant, Thorley headers and Gibson exahaust......too much air flow and its running lean.

I don't want to run any leaner.

I'll get the truck down to the shop next week to have them run a test on it to see if I have a sensor out or something, as it hesitates when I give it gas from a stop.

from I hear, an aftermarket MAF is totally useless.

The only way they make you truck faster is by the weight savings from the litening of your wallet. Been there done that, Sorry they dont work.

Well, you all have certainly made up my mind NOT to purchase one of these.

Thanks

I have had a granatelli on for about 2 years now and havent had any problems with it. When I put it on I thought I could tell a slight difference but whos going to notice even 10hp max in a 5000lb truck anyway? With everything I have done though I do notice my truck is quite a bit faster then stock. I want to get the BBK throttle body next since I get them cost.

i have one too...of course it set off a code, truck is running lean. i only use this with the piping for the s/c. but right now the truck is stock (blew seals in blower) and i put the GMS on to see how it ould perform, well, set the code off immediately. just use the stock MAF, trust me, the GM is not worth it! ur better off spending that 350+ for a new pcm by Westers or Nelson!!!! do a search on those, a lot more SOTP performance!

Its a hit and miss. If you have a buddy that has one install his for a test (its easy) an see if you think its worth it.
