ok, I have a 96 sierra with a standard cab. It had bench seats untill a few months ago when i put in racing buckets.now I have an open spot for a custom center console. The problem with that is I don't know how to make one out of fiberglass. I also read something about making it out of clay. I'm so confused on what to do.Can someone give me a step by step, or does anyone know how to do it. I could really use some help! THANKS :bowtie:

I built one for my tahoe and its just a little fiberglass and some MDF. Not hard, for me i just had to get in there and start working on it. then thats when it really took shape i really had no idea what i was looking for before i started. Heres a picture.

looks very good... I agree though with justatahoe. Just take some cardboard and make not of the angles of the floor and the dash and then a shape of the console walls. Put the cardboard onto the mdf wood then make the cuts into the wood and you'll have 2 perfectly matching sides. Add some fiberglass to connect the boards adds to the top, sand and add some bondo to smooth it out more. Make it really smooth for some paint or use some carpet or vinyl (justatahoe). This is the jist of it and anyone else can elaborate more.....
I suggest trying it out. if you mess up try again
And here I thought my COFFEE TABLE was cluttered with A/V remotes. Perhaps something of this type might help:

thanks for the compliments guys..
Yea, Grunmn said it best. thats pretty much what i did. i made the sides out of cardboard first then cut the wood. then after that i put some bracing inbetween the 2 sides and started filling in top.
HAZARDOUS1500, the covering went like this i tried covering it with just 3M spray adhaisive (sp) but it wasnt coming out the way i wanted it to. So i have a buddy that wife does alot of sowing so i went to her and said heres the vinyle make it fit. thats what she come up with i was happy so i glued it down like that and there you have it.
Ok and you guys might be relieved to know that the next console i build for the truck i wont be having all the remotes out. good lord.

That is the way my console is made also. I made the templates out of cardboard and then transfered it over to the wood. The crappy part about mine was making it match up to the box that is under the rear seat and making it all look correct. It is hard to see what I am talking about with it matching up..

Hehe and look along the back wall... Jeesh how many gas containers do you need? What are you stocking up in case gas prices go > $3?

Haha I was waiting for someone to call me out on the gas containers, they are for our boat and for some reason gas can seem to go bad in like a year or two and start leaking so we just buy a new set of 3 every year and stockpile the old ones... There are about 15 more on the other wall that you can see :P
Yea those are door panels from my buddies talon that we are fiberglassing, adding speaker pods angled out and up and covering up a hole he had to cut out of the panel for his shaved door solenoids. They will be covered in white/blue vinyl when we're done I think.
