Welcome to the site!!!
The stall converter that you use will largely depend upon what you are trying to do with your truck....

Daily driver vs. towing/hauling vs. racing

Daily driver and tow/haul will have a lower stall than a racing application. Also, your gearing will likely be a factor based on the application as well.

Either it is a racer or a daily driver, not both.

Then why is there such a thing as street/strip applications?W/ a street strip application you would ideally put in a more mild stall than you would use in an all out race truck. You might see a little drop in fuel economy, but overall driveability shouldn't be compromised. For instance, I could put around a 2500 stall and 3.90 gears in my truck and it would still be a fine daily driver. Now, since I don't have and NBS truck I can't give exact stall numbers, but what you are wanting to do seems very doable.

For a 5.3 I would guess a 2800 maybe 3000. It depends on the use, DD, racer.

it not a dd i drive a 91 toy 4x4 back and forth to work my wife take it when she does not feel like shifting the 04 gto i just bought her she like my truck better than her blazer see take it to the store. it does not get that much miles put on it it mostly for fun i like the way it rides and drives for a fscp it has a lot off kills under it belt know i not say it the fastest one out there by any measure 14.6 at97 mph i just want a little faster like 13.99 at 102

i would go with something between 3200 and 3600. a 3000 would be the lowest stall speed i'd go with for your application. there's a big difference between a 3000 and 3600 though. my 2600 is ok for street and good for towing. if i had a pure street/strip machine and didnt care about mpg around town, then i'd go for a 3100~3300. dont worry about the highway - when your converter locks, its no different than stock.

with 4.10s and even a 3000 stall in a 2wd truck - good luck with traction. get some DRs. remember its traction that wins races!

have you looked into an aftermarket cam?

For most street performance applications you want a stall that is about 500-700 rpms below your peak TQ. A very high stall does not necessarily give you better performance.

dont forget about shift extension! you want a stall that fits the power band, true - but a higher stall also offers more shift extension.

the newer vortecs dont make the low end torque of your BBC

Man I have not heard of many guys upgrading NBS trannies, let us know the outcomes.
Just to put in my humble 2 cents is a higher stall converter where you really want to invest your cash? I wonder if this is a mod that could be installed 5-6,000$ down the road.

i'd go with a 3000 to 3200 depends on power really

well since he says its gna mostly raced then i would go for w 3200 - 3600 stall, it would compliment the gears he's going with nicley. and the stock tires are gna be TOAST really quick like....
and titanium, havent you seen any of the trucks around this site, alot of them are very highly modded either lifted lowerd or blown..... they can be DD as most of them are or the can be a show truck or a mostly racer. and that is exactly why they call some things street/strip vehicles. :twak:
