I have a 4.8L vortec V8 and i wanna get the most power that I can get for my money. Computer Reprogrammers, throttle body spacers, mass air flow sensors? So many choices but I want as much power as possible. Does anyone have a motor like mine with some additions or does anyone have any advice? :help: All help would be appreciated!

I don't have the same engine, but I think a Wester's or similar tune would give you the most bang for buck. Should gain you at least 25HP w/ 93 octane optimization. I think the newer vortecs respond better to tuning than the first gens. Torque management reduction would also help a lot too. Just do a search for Wester's and you should find all the info you need.

You'll notice a pretty big difference if you go with a Westers or other custom tune. Some other things you might want to look into are Exhaust and Intake. Depending on what gears you have you might want to swap them out for something different. You could always look into a supercharger or nitrous also. You'd probably want to beef up your transmission too somewhere along the line.

Don't get down on your 4.8 too much either, the 5.3 doesn't have much more power. My friend has an '01 ECSB 5.3 and we lined up. I actually took him with the 4.8 (i have '01 RCLB). We both have 3.73s 265/75R16 tires. I took him 2/2. Was really close, his headlights were right at my window.

superchargers do a hell of alot to those enigines joe gibbs performance made a short bed full size with i think a 5 speed 4.8l supercharged and that thing would move

whats the budget
sts turbo would work great or a supercharger

if tight budget id say catback and a good custom tune like ls1edit

If you do not know how to tune yourself then do not get LS1edit,you can and will mess that engine and tranny up if you do not know what you are doin with it,get a Westers tune,I promise you that you will not be sorry you got it,it is that good.

gears posi and a stall will net you a 1 sec reduction in your 1/4 mile time Garunteed.
then get you a tune from a reputable tuner..
loose some wieght off your truck.
