As per Whipple and the stock readings off my '94.......12-15 at idle.
Most info out there states 11-13, but the guys at whipple told me different and stock at idle mine was at 14 on 2 different guages.

Your PSI maybe that high because of the 383. Just a thought.

My 87 is happy at 14 psi at idle. Any more FP & she gets rich.

The '87 is somewhat stock-ish right?

The factory sets the FP from 11-13, which is pretty low. If I remember right, the manual states 9-13, but my truck won't even start on 9! That why the TBI's respond well to upping the FP after a couple of modifications, they tend to run lean from the start.
Mine runs 13.5-14, with the stock regulator made adjustable. I'm pretty sure the stock pump is only good to about 15psi.
You'd need a lot of modifications to need 16-18psi. You could buy the 18psi pump and use a good aftermarket regulator to tune it down.

CKTA: The '87 is somewhat stock-ish right?
Vortec 4 bolt block, Vortec heads ported / polished, LT4 cam & springs, 1.6 roller rockers, GMPP Vortec / TBI intake, 62 lb matched injectors, Flowed & polished TB, ADJ FPR, injector spacer, thinned throttle blades & shafts, TBI CHIP, Headers, duals....
Yeah its mostly stock :naughty:

Correct, I have a TPI pump intank for the Whipple running 10 PSI. I only had to bump it up to 15 PSI at idle tho.
