cant turn key backwards?

i have a 97 1500, am i the only truck that cant turn the key backwards? why wont it turn backwards? thanks

If the steering column is locked, try moving the steering wheel while trying to turn the key to the ACC position.

my friend has a 94 1500 and hers dosent turn backwards eather.

That is so true there, fool. I've notice my '91 Z getting alill cantankerous, also. But if, you play w/ the wheel while attemptin to turn the key it should work.

My dads 96 used to do that. Never tryed to fix it.

ok i played with it for 20 min still nothin...i give up..its not the end of the world..lol thanks for the help

mines kinda that way. i just pull the key out, flip it over, and try it again.LOL kinda sucks, i was gonna try to cut some new keys, one side of original key on both sides of a new key and the other side on another key, just to see which side works i get the right key :D

id like to change out the ignition switch some day so its smooth both ways with no problems, but thats so minor i realy dont care.... i chill at home all the time instead of chillen inside my vehicles.... ;)

if ya just gonna listen to the radio with the ignition off i got a cheap way for ya..... just splice in another wire into the radios ACC/ignition wire.... and just wire it up to a power switch under the dash or anywhere ya wanna put the switch ;) then when ya wanna hear the radio just flip the switch... then ya dont have to worry about the vehicle geting stolen if your just listening to the radio outside the car! i dont trust my key in the car without my in the drivers seat. LMFAO

I have a '96 GMC Z71 and my key doesn't turn back to acc. either. I just turn it to run, and turn back towards off ever so slightly, all the dash lights etc. will turn off, and the radio will stay on. There is a very fine point to try to hit to make this work, but I've got it down.

Maybe ours never turned back to accessory. Although my keys do look completely worn out. Truck has 280k on it and both the keys are almost smooth. That could be the reason as well.
