Hello, recently purchased a 2005 4wd 1500 silverado orange county choppers conversion truck. I got onto summit and ordered a couple things and was wanting some opinions/imput as to what kind of gains i should expect and if i have chosen wisely...
got the k&n cold air kit and the superchips max programmer. Also have a 40 series flowmaster coming in.
With just these mods alone, what kind of hp gains should i probably expect to get?
Also, what kind of hp does the 5.3/323 come with stock?
Thanks any info or comments are appreciated.

should be about 100hp gain easy
:kidding:
the intake and exhaust will probably net you around maybe 5-10hp at the rear wheels:think:
the program, I couldn't tell you on, since it depends on what settings you decide to use on it, and i'm not familiar w/ that programmer, so can't tell ya, but if you want any help w/ the programmer and settings to use, i'd PM aerdiano? think that's how it's spelled, he's an awesome source of knowledge.
and lastly, welcome to FSC:rocking:

OCC welcome to the site. First I would contact summit and cancel the order on teh Superchips! Check the site out for Nelson tunning. www.nelsonperformance.com This is supposed to be one of the better products around. I am going to order once next month once I have paid off the wheels and tires for my new 05.
I put a Volant CAI and ram air kit on my trucks I can't be for sure the HP but it was worth every penny in the response that I got out of the turck> I also went with a 50 series 3 chamber Flow (single in and dual out) with oval tips to help keep the noise down.
The sound and performance alone are great. You might check on a vette Servo as well supposed to help out with shifting and its a very cheap mod.
Do you have pictures of the truck.
You can check exhaust (http://www.mejensen.com/truck/2005%20LT%20049.jpg) here and the CAI here (http://www.mejensen.com/truck/2005%20LT%20051.jpg)

There are two three different versions of the 5.3L for 2005. Flex fuel model i'm not too sure about the horsepower rating. I do know the standard 5.3L makes 295HP from the factory, and they also have a all alumminum engine 5.3L that is rated at 310HP I think.
The combination of your K&N FIPK, and the flowmaster muffler should make at most 35HP gain at the motor. With the programmer I would hope for about 25-30HP gain over stock ECM settings.
My buddies owns a 2000 chevy with the 5.3L, and he has the following mods on his motor.
-Airaid cold air intake system.
-Poweraid throttlebody spacer.
-Shorty headers.
-Custom dual exhaust with flowmaster 30 series mufflers.
-Hyperchip programmer.
-Shift kit.
At the rear wheels he is making 324HP (about 340HP at the crank). And that's up from the 2000 stock HP rating of 275.

Not to mention that its only a 5% drivetrain loss with those numbers.
It would take about 405 at the flywheel to make 324 at the wheels. :read:

the truck just feels sick.... wont even turn the tires via brake torque. It has 20" wheels, but i was told the overall height is the same as factory since the conversion company used a lo pro tire. any idea what type of gear the rearends have stock?
Brandon
ps
runs about 1500 r's @ 55 mph

oh, one more thing..... is there some form of traction controll that i can program out of it? You'll have to excuse my ignorance of some of this stuff.

Check your glovebox for one of these codes:
GT4: 3.73:1 Rear Axle Ratio
GT5: 4.10:1 Rear Axle Ratio
GU4: 3.08:1 Rear Axle Ratio
GU6: 3.42:1 Rear Axle Ratio

It's called Torque Management. Get a custom tune from PCMforless, Nelsons or Westers. You'll be alot happier. :D
