I have a 95 z71 5.7L 350. Right now my exhaust is a single 2.5 system instead of 3. Is this what is causing my exhaust to sound very raspy and quiet. Even with straights it isnt very loud at all. Would swapping the 2.5 piping for 3 make any noticeable difference in the tone of my exhaust? Thanks

tone-yes,
power-yes, but not how you want, we're talking power loss in the low end. do you have a X or h-pipe now, if not, try that first to equalize out the system.
unless you're engine is pushing some pretty good hp numbers, 3" on a dual setup is going to be to big:read:

3 inch should make it deeper, and maybe a bit quieter.

No x or h pipe. I don't have a true dual system. Its 2" collectors from the manifolds into y-pipe then 2.5" piping all the way to another y-pipe and then dual 2.25" piping to 3.5" tips. I hope that clears things up. Thanks.

Your pickup came from the factory with 3" pipe coming off your converter. I would have the local exhaust shop install 3" pipe coming off your converter into a flowmaster 40 series muffler (part#430402) with 2 1/2" dual tail pipes with 4" stainless tips. My buddy has this set up on his 1995 K1500 with a TBI 350, and it sounds great.
