I'm looking to finally put some headers on my 454SS. I have a set of Hooker Super Comps, but they are too long & my truck is lowered 5"-7". I do not want to drag the headers. This is what has kept me from doing this all this time. Right now, I run Extrude Honed stock cast iron manifolds. They work, but I know there is some lost horsepower here. The motor was dynoed with 2" dyno headers & I would love to get some 2" headers for it, but realistically with the way the truck sits, 1 7/8 are probably what I need. The Hooker S/Cs hang below the tranny crossmember. I need something that will allow the pipes to run above the crossmember, as they are now.

Wow thats sweet. Its so clean.

Maybe you will have to get mid length or shorty headers. I don't think performance is as good, but if you need the clearance you might have to.

And welcome to FSC.

What's up long time no see.

I have been into other toys & the SS has been on the backburner. I've just been driving it once in a while. Last week I pulled the tranny out to fix a clutch problem I have had since I had it at the Sport Truck Shootout 2 years ago. Now it is time to make some other changes. I am upgrading the DFI to ver 7 (windows GUI based), Changing the rear end gears to 4.56 & while under the treuck it makes me sick of how my exhaust has been all of these years. It is time to make it right too.

I was actually looking for info on the FSC site & decided to post. I just installed a Vortech V2 kit on a 1991 5.7L 2WD Dually & am less than enthused at how it runs. Went with the S/C for towing & found that it aint gonna tow the way a big block tows.

What's up with you?

I feel your pain about the headers. I have the 2" Super Comps on my big block truck. I had to fabricate a new tranny crossmember & have the drivers side header modified by cutting out & raising up the lowest tube. Not fun to have to cut on $600 headers. I was nervous but it turned out great. A friend of mine has the 1-7/8 shorties on his big block that was built very similar to my motor & they were within a tenth of a second at the track. I will say that mine will really go on top end, like they can breathe real good. Check out my web link to see what I had to do. http://members.***********/zz3guy/sporttruck/id24.htm

here is a pic of my "modified" Super Comp Hooker 2" full length headers. I should have it recoated by Jet Hot but you can only see it if you lay down on the ground so I just let it go. I'll get it done one of these days.

These headers are a very tight fit as you can see - very close to the lower a-arm, steering shaft, & about 1/8" of clearance on the passenger side inner fender. I also had to cut an "ear" off the tranny case for them to clear. It's all worth it when the tach is past 5500 rpms.

Yep. It's been in the World of Wheels, it's been to many cruises in the area, I usually try to make it to Keystone (Pgh Raceway Park) at least once a year. What part of town are you from? I grew up in Plum Borough & work in Monroeville.
