Hey Houston fellas I think this has been posted before but I went to Autocraft Electronics to get my escalade guage milage switched over from my tahoe. They switch it and calibrate it for $45. Only took 15 minutes.

Thanks alot. That's the place I'm going when I get my cluster, and is the same place the dealer recommended. All you have to do is bring them the new cluster and they will switch it for you?

Does that void the warranty to do that? How does the dealer know you didn't type in a false reading into the new cluster?

It shouldn't affect the warranty.

The place I called around here told me they take the mileage from the original cluster to the new one.

I bet they just switch a chip. Probably pretty easy for anyone who can solder.

Actually the guy told me its done via a cable that plugs into the the hole on the cluster. They first hook your old one up to verify the milage, then switch it to the new one and input the milage. It does not void the factory warranty because it's done by people who are GM and Ford certified to do speedometer repair and warranty jobs. My cluster was signed and dated on the back by the person that did the transfer/calibration and I also have a printed copy in case any warranty issues do come up.

:digger: I know, this is a freakin' old post I dug up, but I have some useful info on this place, so what the hell.

Autocraft Electronics has closed their Houston shop. The phone number listed above still works, but it redirects you to the shop in Carrollton (DFW). They charge $55 to update the odometer and hours, plus $20 to ship it back.

I just did mine last week and they were really fast. Sent it FedEx two-day on Monday morning and got it back Friday afternoon.

You can either send your new cluster with a certified, notarized odometer statement saying what mileage needs to go in, or you can send both clusters. If you send both, be sure to designate which cluster is old and which is new. Also, put in big letters "Set Mileage Only" so they know just to update the miles and not to try and fix something. And of course you need to include your return address.

I'm leaving their address off on purpose in case they move again. You should call to verify their location (713-981-5700), as I don't want to be responsible for someone accidentally shipping their $300 cluster to Joe Bob's Lingerie World or something. :badidea:

Need to get the hours set also. I forgot but the tech came up with some believeable number but not 100% correct I'm sure. Otherwise it will be on 0 when you get it back.

Autocraft did set the hours, but that's a good point. You should probably include that in your "Set Mileage Only" note and put in on the certified odometer statement if you go that route.

I got mine from a friend, so I stole it for $100. It was for a 2002 Silverado and it came out of a 2002 Escalade. I don't know what the cross-year interchangeability is.

I haven't priced a new one in awhile, but it seems they were in the $300 range new from what I remember. I thing www.gmpartsdirect.com was about the cheapest the last time I looked, but there are always people on eBay selling them too, so you might find a better deal there.
