in the new issue of TRUCKS there is a tech article about doing a billet colomn shifter on a 1996 1500 and the guages have 180 MPH and 6000 rpm with NO redline.
what the hell, ive never seen them!

Are you sure it was actually MPH and not KPH? Could have easily been a Canadian truck. There are no C/K clusters that read 180.

Cameron:word: If it's not KPH it would have to be an aftermarket setup w/ autometer gauges or something.

i was a factory guage setup, but it might have been in KPH, ill check when i get home! didnt think about that.

180 MPH in a 1500? They're about as aerodynamic as a... http://www.afstudios.com/Photos/%7BB8FE7783-BEFB-473C-9C99-472EAC33B1BD%7D_cindermain-thumb.jpg
BTW, my '99 Tahoe tach reads to 6k with no redline. It won't go to 6k, but that's another issue altogether.

Stop telling stories, your tach WILL NOT READ 6000rpm, the factory limiter is set at 5600. Hop in your truck and in park hold the accelerator open, you will bounce of of revlimiter at 5600 rpm, guarenteed.
Even with programming Hypertech, westers, Ed Wright upping the rev limiters, I have yet to find anyone with a 6000 rpm revlimit on an OBS GM pickup.
Please someone PROVE ME WRONG, I then want your PCM tuners name and number. Over at PPandE we are looking for fixes so we can get some 6500rpm shiftpoints and 6800 rpm revlimits for use with our Marine Intake manifolds. Everone says tehy can set them to whatever we want, thats BS, when you get the PCM back, NO ONE I HAVE PERSONALLY TALKED TO OR WRITTEN HAS EVER HAD AREV LIMITER ACTUALLY LIMIT THE REVS OVER 5800rpm in a 96-99 GM pickup. This is a big problem.
BTW my 1997 GMC has a 6000rpm tach with NO redline is revlimited to 5800 rpm even though I told Ed to set it to 6100rpm, (same goes for Westers, I'm told). And my speedo goes to 180kmph, even though I have had her over 220 kph with 4.10's.

What do you mean "doesn't use metric?" I use the 13mm socket all the time (I lost the 1/2" one somewhere) :rsr:

According to a few sites I just looked at the fuel cutoff for 4.3 vortec motors is 5500 rpm. Even with custom chips, with a stock motor, revving to 6800 even if you could would be useless.
Cameron

At 6800, the valvetrain as it's probably in full float mode  Seems like it'd be easier just to pour the gasoline out on the ground instead of in the intake valve and out the exhaust valve :argue:

lololololololololololol :burn: :head: :rocking: i don't normally try to go past 6, but i had my truck tested just to know the limits, and i never said i went to 6800, i said that was the redline, have had the needle hit 6 ands hit the peg , so i know for sure it went past, the dyno test said that was were the redline is, but i doubt it has ever hit it.

UUUUUUHHHH "I had my truck tested just so I know its limits" "I didnt say it has been to 6800rpm I said its redline is 6800rpm"
Oh my lord I should have worn my rubber boots, its really thick here. You are the only person in North America with a 1996-1999 truck that can rev their engine over 5800 rpm, Can I buy your PCM please, I'll have it converted to fire my V8.

look at your gas pumps, litres or gallons?
American weather temps. celsius or farenheit
air pressure kilopascals or psi
speed kmph mph
fuel economy liters per 100 km mpg
thats what I mean"dont use metric" take it easy my man
Thats handy, I sub a 1/2" socket for a 13 mm and vive versa all the time

Does the LT1 PCM you are yusing look anything like the PCM the Vortec trucks are using???
Your answer could help a lot of people.
That'd be nice, a LT1, did you gain much power, seeing as the L31 Vortec 350 heads are pretty much the same as the Lt1 heads, except that the Lt1's are aluminum vs. the L31 cast iron? They have the same port shape and volume, LT1 are reverse cooled and have a little higher comp ratio.
Did you have a 350 vortec or a different vortec engine before the swap???
thanks a million

when I had my 97 (built motor) I had the computer built by Deano and the guys at SPE - I could peg 6k all day long if I wanted to with no prob, and did on a very few occasions, and had it purposefully set unreasonably high in the computer so I could control the rev limiter with my MSD Digi6. since then I have started building my own custom tunes for my customer's projects and I know without question where and how to modify the necessary tables to make a 96-99 rev past 6k rpm. if your tuner cant do it, maybe you should try someone else, there are several of us on this board that consider ourselves very competent tuners and can address your needs... :D

pauly, don't believe me then, maybe mine is only 6200 like SLMDLT1s truck, but i know it will rev over 6000, because i have done it. i agree wth 1989k1500, you are acting like a jerk. i'm not trying to prove anything, i'm just saying mine will go over 6000. and were not getting any where over this arguing about what everyones trucks will rev at, wasn't the actuall concept of this thread about leting dumpedv8 know, that the cluster was 180km/hr, not mph, and that they did put them in 96-99 trucks. now i understand why i have read people tell other people to start new threads, because side conversations, and arguments, plug up the original thread, and the creator of it, sometimes doen't get all the info he is looking for.

ya the US is the BEST country, just look at your murder rate and health care system, I'm jealous. If it wasnt for Canada, electricity, lumber and freshwater would be in short supply in the US. Plus where would you guys fly your cruise missiles??? I'm joking.
I dont want to go down this path, I think that both Canada and the US are awesome countries, I also think Austrailia is awesome. We ALL came over on the same boat, fom the SAME country(most of us).
So go ahead and poke fun, I allready apologized for my brutal remarks, I called myself a jerk, noone else did. I will not post any more under this heading any more, so let me have it.
Have a good day

The computers look similar, but they will not work in place of one another.
Yea, i gained alot when i swapped out the stock vortec 350 for a heads/cam lt1 with all the boltons, headers and full exhaust, and a good tune.
