I wanna replace the two 50 delta's that I am running right now, due to them being too quiet but dunno which of the 40 series I should go with. According to the flowmaster web site, the Super 40 scavenges and flows better than the original 40 muffler. Can anybody confirm/deny this? From what I was reading the regular 40 delta just seems to be a quieter Super 40? Anybody know of the tone and loudness difference between the 3? Im kinda leaning towards the Super 40's unless anybody has reason not to? Thanks for all imput and opinions!!
40 is louder then a 50 series.
Changing your tailpipe configuration greatly changes how 'loud' your exhaust setup sounds

Well right now I have my tailpipes running back to the bumper straight out with no tips at the end. Will a set of tips make much of a difference in the sound at all?

Yep, not sure if it will sound how you want but it will change it :D

I was orignally looking to get the Super 40's also just because I'd heard a lot and seen a lot of advertising for them. After going to www.flowmastermufflers.com and listening to the sound clips of all the series, I thought that the 40 Delta Flow sounded much better than any other. The regular 40 sounds great, but probably too loud for me. And the Super 40 seems to have a higher pitch than both of them to me, especially under RPM changes. I'm not sure of what vehicle they recorded them on, but it sounds good to me and I'm looking to buy a pair for my 84 truck. I hope this helped, or that you can help me also because my mind is pretty much made up.
(Note: I have seen in other exhaust posts that the reg. 40 is annoying and has a lot of resonance, so I'm not the only one who thinks it's too loud.)

Yep, I have one of ther original 40's and it sounds like nothing but a big bumble bee in my cab. It resonates a lot around 1800-2400 rpm, sounds pretty crappy inside. Outside however, it sounds great, very mellow and deep. The muffler is pretty old, since it was put on by the previous owner. I heard the super 40 is actually lower pitched than the original 40. I'm pretty much looking at a super 40 or magnaflow, both being SI/DO. Does anyone know which is deeper and has less resonance?

I decided to go with the super 40's. From what I read/heard they have lower interior resonance than the standard 40 but still have a nice deep agressive rumble to them. And they flow better blah blah blah. The problem with the sound clips on flowmasters site is that they use different vehicles for each of the clips so you cant really judge too much based on them. I listened to the videos on magnaflows site and I liked the sound of a 5.3 chevy cat back system they had, but it seemed to quiet to me unless it was WOT taking off. I did like the tone that the magnaflow had and I heard they have low interior resonance, but I still like the metallic resonance of the flowmasters.

go with a di/do magnaflow has a true-x core sounds awsome super deep and smooth tone and sound great in the cab part # is 11386 go to www.performancepeddler.com $78.91 shipped cheaper than flow's and lifetime on it. if you get the magna it will take alittle time to break in but once it does its so sweet!

I get what you're saying about the different vehicles. I wonder how much difference there is between different engines and pipe configuration? I'm still thinking 40 Delta Flows, so let me know how the Supers are so maybe you can change my mind again.

I imagine there is some difference between running di/do, di/si, si/so and all the different engines to go along with them... ahh the fun of customizing. Anyways I will get my flows on Wed and have em on for sure by Fri, so I will let you know what I think of them and the difference from my 50 Delta's :cheer:

I swapped in a super 40 in place of a delta 40 a while back. The super is definately a deeper and a little louder sound. As far as performance??? I couldn't really feel any difference between the two.

here is a video of my truck at the track. it is my truck you hear, as the camaro is pretty quiet. i have hedman headers, and dual 2.5 exhaust running into original flowmaster 40's then dumping over the axle.

Well I got my super 40's welded up today, and I must say I do like them better than my delta 50's. It still isnt as loud as I would of liked but I do like the sound of these better. They have a nice low end sound to em, and they arent much louder if any than the delta 50's at cruise. I still need to get a set of tips to finish this off, when I can find a set. I need to replace my cats and will probably get a set of high-flow magnaflow's and maybe some shorty headers too. All in time I guess hehe :D

Will 2 super 40's be noticeably louder than just one...or how about 3? lol
Two mufflers does not sound much different then one.
