I'm suppose to pickup a Ls1 today for $200. The engine was hydro locked and it has 2 bent rods. It's just the engine itself, no tranny, harness, etc. Just the block, heads and intake. Is it worth it to try to fix it and dump it in my 98 tahoe? I have a buddy who is a mechanic at the Chevy dealer and that's how I'm getting the engine. All he does there is work on Vette's so he knows his stuff when it comes down to Vette engines. My question is would I spend a lot of money trying to put this in my tahoe or would it just be better to fix it and sell it and make a little profit?
Thanks
Chuck
It's going to cost alot for the swap itself, but a 200 LS1 even needing a rebuild is a real good start. I'd pick it up.

yeah, it sucks that it doesn't have the harness or anything, but for $200, i'd go ahead and get it. Heck, if you don't want it, i'll buy it off of him:read:

I was thinking of getting all that i needed slowly, I'm not in a hurry. My Tahoe has 172,000 but it runs real strong still, Its' just developed a real bad oil leak somewhere and I haven't even tried finding it yet.
About how much would you think I would spend in getting all that I needed?
--New bellhouseing for my tranny
--Wiring harness
--All the brackets to mount the accessories
--And of course I can't forget the CORVETTE plastic covers for the top of the engine.

Are there any differences in the Corvette or Trans-am/Camaro LS1 in Hp or TQ or anything besides being in different cars?

The LS1 in teh Vettes was 345 and 350 hp and 375 lb ft(manual trans) and 360 lb.ft (auto trans). In the F-body it was 305(98-2000) and 310hp(01-02). The LS1 in teh f-bodies regualarly dyno over 300 rwhp which puts them at 360-370 hp at teh crank, your 350 Vortec usually dynos at about 200 rwhp or about 240-250 at the crank. The difference in ratings Vette vs. Camaro ratings are small, the Vette howver does have a much less restictive exhaust, and I beleive the Vetets and Camaros have slightly different cams.
definatley worth putting in your truck. You CAN get 20 plus mpg in an OBStruck with an LS1.
Just imageine swapping your 350 for this 346 and gaining 120 hp at the crank and 5-10 mpg, along with dropping about 100 lbs, simply awesome, goodluck.
Buy it.

I have done some work myself on an LS6 (near identical to LS1). It was in a 2001 trans-am ws6 m6 that my best friend had. You can get massive amounts of power out of those things for very low $$$. I know on that car, the first thing we did was put an aftermarket exhaust and new air lid on it to free up some ponies. about 300$ about 25hp. Then we tackled headers and removed the cats. about 200$. about 40hp. cam- 500$ 45hp. Tune-300$ 15 hp(expensive for very few hp but this really brought everything together). After all of this the car dynod at 459 hp, 527 ft/lbs. :bling: So as you can see, for under 1500$ we had 125 more rear wheel hp and a very fast car. these motors are built to run so if you can pick one up for 200 bucks, i would jump all over it. pm me if you get it and have any questions about the motor or any parts on the motor or where to get parts for them. i know those motors like the back of my hand.
