Okay there are several "budget" brands, or to say, several great brands that offer great stuff at lower prices. When you say Powered Sub, you mean like one of those preloaded boxes that incorporates an amp? Cause basically if you want a subwoofer, you will need to power it via an amp for it to create any affect. Here is what you would probably need as a minimum for your Burban.

4 channel amp (for the door speakers front and rear)
mono amp (for the subwoofer)
6.5" component set (for front doors)
5.25 separates or coaxials (for rear doors)
all wiring necessary

Brands:
some great budget priced amps are:
Hifonics
Avionixx
JBL
Directed Electronics (DEI)
Soundstream
Phoenix Gold

some great budget speakers:
CDT Audio (contact Don Smith islandsound1@yahoo.com)
Lower lines of Crystal and DLS (contact 95stroked1500 Larry Pruitt)
Diamond Audio

Subwoofers:

Hope this helps somewhat. If you need anything else just shoot me a PM

The stock front speakers arent all that bad, they just need some crossover help.
If you want to do it on the cheap, just run them off of the H/U.
Getting some components, coaxials and a powerd sub will set you back around $800+ assuming you install it all yourself.
A simple sub upgrade wont be as much money and will definetly have more output than any powered sub combo.

H/U = head unit = stereo unit = radio unit
The crossovers that come with a component set (usually 2 midbass drivers and 2 tweeters) will have a passive (indefinately set parameters) crossover unit included to make sure the different speakers receive their respective frequencies.

Now you can have adjustable ones, also known as active (there are analog and digital types). These are nice because you can custom tailor the sound to your specific vehicle and installation, however, if you are a beginner, the passive units will fit your needs just fine.

Here is a website for you to read up on, it does a great job of explaining every audio term into laymen's terms for easy understanding and acknowledgement...

I agree 100%... I paid too much for some top end alpines that didn't work out, then replaced the alpines with HD-62 (http://www.cdtaudio.com/hd42_cdt4.htm) and TW-24/LP (http://www.cdtaudio.com/cdt10lp.htm)
Don't let that price there scare you... They can be found for much less. Browse CDT's dealers through their site or ask around the forums for dealers there.
These speakers are simply amazing. They just keep giving without breaking up at higher volumes. Good luck
