i have a 2004 2500 hd duramax. i have installed a edge chip stacked with the quadzilla programmer, k&n intake system, methanol kit and electric wastegate control. im looking for that whisitling soundand "jet" noise at tackoff. would a 5inch straight make it happen, are duals really better on a duramax? do i really need to run mufflers? i know this is out of the topic but does anyone make a twin setup for my truck? thanks for any help. (sorry for miss spellings)

mbrp and others make duals for our trucks.
I would just straight pipe it and take the cat off. Infact I did. I love it, it gave me some power and I love the sound of the jet/bigblock.
Do you have an upgraded Allison?

I think a single 4 or 5 inch straight pipe would do just fine. I don't really see how you can run duals since its just a single turbo if I'm not mistaken, but whatever. I heard a power choke a couple months back and it sounded like a jet engine taking off. No idea what he had done to it but it sounded very cool.
Knock it off. :read:
As for the exhaust. Ted, aka "Big Agry!" on here has a Duramax. He bought the Banks kit for it. He then ended up cutting the muffler out to get the right sound....the sound you are looking for.
So to sum it up. A straight piped system will give you what you are looking for.

Sorry Doug. Diesel systems are pretty simple though. Unless you have a bigger turbo and have a lot more air flowing in and out of the engine I think a straight 4 inch with no muffler and cat would be ideal.

SO I am in the same situation. 2004 duramax. you guys are saying instead of buying a system, just lose the cat and muffler all together and run a straight pipe?

With that stack(also knows as the Bastard stack) i would HIGHLY recommend a tranny upgrade, both ATS transmissions and Suncoast make upgrades. Also you should look into some sort of lift pump system to keep the right amount of fuel going to the truck.(and boy will she make lots of black smoke with a lift pump:head: ) As for exhaust john kennedy of www.kennedydiesel.com makes an awesome system. i have it on my truck and it sounds great. He has some cound clips on his website too.
As for the twins idea, yes they do make twins for the duramax but its not really a kit as of yet. There is a place out in Idaho that has done a few set-ups and i know they can get pricey.
If you have any questions about your duramax go over to www.thedieselplace.com and all the guys on there are more than willing to help out anyone.
Hope this Helps:thumbup:

My firend of mine is a huge diesel enthusiest. He told me once on a turbocharged diesel with a free flowing intake, he would run a 5'' pipe. He just did a 4 inch straight through exhaust with a magnaflow glasspack on a 6.9L Ford and that dam thing sounds like a 454 with straight pipes!! Its enough to make you cream your pants. With a turbocharger I would run 5''. Larger pipes really help cool down those EGTs.

Quadzilla is supposedly better because it makes the truck run smoother.

The quadzilla is much better than banks ever thought of being!!:D
AS for a lift pump you can order that from SuperDiesel. His website is https://ssl.perfora.net/www.superdieselperformance.com/sess/utn;jsessionid=15439b438b0e635/shopdata/index.shopscript
Then click on prodcut overview and you will see the on demand lift pump!
Let me know if can help with anything else

for pumps, you should also check out FASS or Airdog. Both are awesome at keeping your diesel fueled.
Airdog is a smaller setup but it's only downfall IMO is that you have to buy the filters from them.
FASS is a bit bigger setup and a little noisier, but the filters are interchangeable so you don't have to ordder the filters directly from them

go to www.thedieselplace.com they will help you out with everything you ever want to know.
by the way to do a 4 wheel drive launch i would HIGHLY RECOMMEND tie rod sleeves and a centerlink. They can also be found on superdiesel site. But if you have any more questions check out the diesel place. they really are very helpful and alot of the questions you are asking have already been answered over there.

That sounds really good. Almost like a gasser but with a hint of turbo whine. I like it. Nice burnout too.

12s sounds like quite a lofty goal to me. But I dont know a whole lot about diesels.
More info on your truck could help people ballpark what you might run. Like sc, cc, or ec? sb, lb?

12 and even 11s are VERY doable in a crewcab 4x4. Low 13s and high 12s are almost getting to be commonplace among the dmax crowd.
