tires for twenties

hi, I am new to this fourm site, and have a quick question, I drive a stock 1997 chevy silverado 4x4, I am going to order some twenties, and i was wondering what size tire would be best, would a 275/55/20 fit with out any rubbing, or would i have to go with something smaller, also one tire place said anything wider than a 255 will affect my abs is this true,Thanks

There are a few guys here runnin 275/45/20's on a 4/6 drop, so I would say 275/55 on a stock height OBS 4x4 would work.

275/55 will be just about the same height as your stock rim/tire combo, so your speedo/ABS will be fine. That's the size tire GM recommends using on their 20" wheels on the NBS 4WD trucks. Tire width has no bearing on your ABS.

I am just as new as you are to all this modification stuff. But can tell you I was running 285/50/20 until earlier this week. Changed them back to my stand 265/75/17 due to snow conditions here in VA. Had some good slides last week and not as much traction with the tread on the 20's. Will change back in the spring. As for stopping I didn't notice anything different with the bigger tires, the one thing I did notice of course was the handeling was different due to more rubber making contact with the road. Some of the roads I drive on are rutted, with the bigger width I would notice it catching and pulling a bit more. To be expected with those bigger tires of course.

thanks for the input, I talked to someone with the same tire size and rim diminsenions, that I want, he has them on a pickup like mine an he said that he has not had any rubbing problems with them
