Well I have a 98 Z-71. It has the 5.7L 350 Vortec in it. I have an Airaid intake with a K&N filter, Thorley headers, granitelli, and 40 series flows. Was just wondering what you all think I could run the 1/4 in. I dont really have the time to go to the track. I hope I can make it here in the next 3-4 months though. BTW what does a stock 5.7L 350 run? Thanks

You prolly run a 16-16.5. and that lift and those tires doesnt help at all...and your prolly around 300hp...

What gears are you running?

Yeah I know the lift doesnt help. I think that it will go into the low 15's though. It has suprising power for being lifted. I forgot to mention that I have a HPP3. I am running 4.56 gears in the back.

Well your motor is pretty much completely stock, you have headers and a airaid. Your 98 make 250hp stock so i think im shooting a bit high your probably more around 280ish with the lift and all but i would say a bottom 16 1/4 still.

With 4.56 gears, you'll wrap out before you get to the end. Those are 1/8th mile gears, IMO. I'm guessing around a 16.50-17.00 @ 80-85mph.

gears might help a little with larger tires, but they still weight a lot more. you are in the air with no aerodynamics and huge tires (all air resistance). i would go with the 16 to a 16.5

Kind of what I was thinking, somewhere in the 17's.

With 4.56's and 35's his gearing is brought back to right around stock, remember he put gears in because of the larger tires, so it definitly won't "wrap out".

How will it not wrap out, if he's hitting 5,800 rpms before he crosses the finish line? I had a ranger with a 5.0 and 35's. The final gear ratio was 4.11, and I couldn't do more than 85-90, because it was redlined in overdrive(4 speed).

I woud say probably mid to high 16s. That truck in stock for seams to run OK. My 94 tbi 350 4wd ECSB ran 17.5 at moderately high elevation with a K&N replacement filter, gibson cat back, and an off the shelf chip. With the gear you've got you oughta get a decent launch even with the big tires. Is traction an issue for you on the street?

what makes you think it will be at 5800 rpm's at the traps.

he is running 4:56 with a 35" tire, :whacko: not going to be at 5800 rpm's

Simple auto math. Installing larger than stock tires lowers the final drive ratio of the rear end. A numerically higher gear ratio is used to compensate and raise the final drive ratio to approach the stock configuration.

Play with some numbers yourself with this demo program:

I stand corrected....I don't know that much about jacked up trucks, except for my personal experience. That does make sense, now that I stop and think about it. It's just strange that my Ranger topped out like that......:run:

Not to mention you're pushing the same air at 6" higher than stock as you are stock or 6" below stock. It's not like the lift put your engine on Mt. St Helens and the rest of your truck in the Grand Canyon. Tires and the extra weight will affect it more than anythig (un-sprung weight). The drag induced from the drop of the front diff. is not going to be noticable. Especially since you won't be getting anywhere near 100mph for trap speed. I'd be supprised if that would even make a 1/10th of a sec. difference in the e.t.

That being said, I think you will run baseline stock for the year/engine of your truck.
