I have a cheapy one on there right now but would like to get one that screws onto the shaft so it's more stable. Any ideas what size that shaft/thread is and who makes aftermarket shift knobs?

Seems like it's just standard size..no need to screw it on..my factory one was glued. Had to destroy it to get it OFF, replaced it with a Chrome Skull. :rocking:

Mine was threaded. :dunno:

The threads on mine didn't match any standard sized threads (mine was metric).

^^^^ love the avatar. Mine is threaded and right now I have the old one from my mustang on it and it threaded on just fine. I don't know why I put it on I guess I was just borred.

88-94 were screw on, 95 -98(99-00) were glued on.

i don't really know much about NBS, they make me sick, i like obs. sorry. but i would imagine it is glued also, they use more sofisticated(dunno) means today then they did back in the day.

I managed to get one from the wanted section. Mine definately is suspose to be a threaded one. Thanks though for replying!

I wish in some cases it was a push button system because of the funk in shifting to 4lo but ahh not that big of a deal. The stick looks buffer anyways :)

If you shift like the manual says mine shifts really smoothly into 4lo ...

I have the book but it doesn't say anywhere that I saw in the transfer case section how to shift into 4lo. I know you are suspose to be stopped, truck in N or P, and just one solid motion I think into 4lo. I'm not 100% sure how to do this the right way though.

Can you please explain? LOL my s-10 use to grind like no other and I haven't tried on this truck because I don't want to hear those sounds. If I manage to figure it out and do it right then all is good!

Nope, you shoudl be coasting at 2-3 mph, tranny in N, then shift smoothly.

The smoothest way is to shut the truck of and shift into 4-lo then start it back up. I leave mine running stoped with the tranny in N then shift and smooth as KY.

You wouldnt wish that if you'd seen how many problems folks are having with the damn pushbutton system...like the poor soul who had his new 2500HD drop into 4L at 70mph and do about 7 grand worth the damage to his driveline, or electronic servo's going bad from getting wet/muddy (something most 4x4 trucks do often) or just the switches going bad. The manual shift might take alittle more work (leaning down and pushing lol) but at least it works.

Thats why I ordered my 06 with the stick in the floor

My 93 suburban has a sticker on the visor that says I have to put trans in neutral and set the emermgency brake to switch to 4Lo
