Lockers

I've heard mixed opinions on this. Are Lockers in the front necessarry or do you really only need em in the back?

Depends on how trail worthy of a rig you want. Most people start with a rear locker and that is enough for them. If you want to get more extreme then add a front locker. You cannot get a front locker for your IFS though.

YES! I have a Detroit in the rear, and power lock in the front. Last time I got stuck,i really think it would have gone differently if I had full locker in the front, so, I have bought a Detroit for the front, just waiting to get it installed.

Just an example...take two identical rigs, one with open diffs, and one locked front and rear. Take them out till one of them gets stuck. The locked one will do circles around the other truck. Seen it a hundred times on trails and mud running. And no they dont make a locker for the front of the 8.25 front diff. But with a welder and a posi lok cable, course im prolly the only one crazy enough to do it. :eek:

well if you have ifs they dont make a locker for chevy truck, and I would get a front locker only if you have beefy axles that little 10bolt/dana44 will go boom

They do make lockers for the AAM 925 IFS front differential in 1500HDs, 2500s & 3500s.

There is a guy at work that weld his ifs in a s10, it eats cv's though.

who does I havent seen them yet, i wasnt aware theres aftermarket support (as in lockers) for the AAM axles

we went out wheeling and all the other guys... hammer down the pedal and do the one legged wonder... then we get to thicker stuff and they are working it... tires spinning.. I just go in and little throttle... 0 work....

basically yes lockers are saweet.. im detroited front / rear and yes it is better but took some of the fun out.. i cant hammer it and have the tires turn and barely move.. I hammer it and the truck launches...


that is good but remember this too... open axles = stuck easier = easier to get unstuck...

lockers = stuck in deeper = harder to get out...

I have not got stuck yet... I have been trying.. the only thing I didnt do which would of been more of a waterlogged deal over stuck in mud is....

Lets hear some more about welding the front IFS diff. anyone done that? I was going to do it on my CJ7 soon.
