well, i got a good deal on a 2002 ls1 engine with a 5 speed tranny. i want to use the original tranny i have on my truck because its an auto. what should i do to beef up my tranny for its new engine. by the way i drive a 2005 silverado 4.3. i bought the truck brand new, i got about 14 thousand miles on it. well, my question is what should I do to my auto tranny before i swap in the ls1. i want to get the most power i can out of it. thanx for reading. the only thing i could think of was a shift kit.

The Transgo shift kit should help along with some servos and someone who knows for sure can chime in as well.

Are you goin to leave the LS1 stock? If so just do a TranGo HD2 shift kit with the vette servo. Then add a tranny cooler to the setup cheap easy instal insurance cost is about 50-60bucks for one. That should be enough for a stock LS1.

LSx had 6-speed transmissions. the only 5-spd offered on genIII engine
was the nv series on 4.8L and 6.0L engines
i think demon has a stick on such a conversion and what all that had to
be done to do this. http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=144116
if you retain the LS1 intake and injection, a stall converter is a fine
upgrade along with the shiftkit and HD cooler. like having an extra 40hp
laying low till called to flog some tires. the LS like 3500rpm+ stalls.
the truck genIII like 2600-3200rpm stalls.

usually someone here has done it and others trying or willing to do it...
ya gotta get it the right mind set when doing this:
1. open driver-side door (optional: roll window down)
2. place right hand (palm towards the door jam) hovering over the door
exposed door pillar
3. with left hand, close the driver-side door with great force, causing
the door to sandwich your hand in bewtween the door and door pilar.
now you are in the proper mindset and karma peace with aligned schakras

check out the thread deano listed, it has some great info. you are basically doing the exact same swap I did on Demon's truck, so check with him if you have questions. and although Ive done several now, every time I start one of these conversions I feel exactly like deano said, I want to slam my hand in the door, heheh

a few more question guys please. Should a use the ls1 accessories or should i look for v8 silverado accessories? what about the ecu should i use the one already on my truck or is better to use the ls1 ecu. oh yeah, how hard is it to modify the silverado v8 harness to ls1 accessories and what is it that you need to do to it. and what do you mean by reflash the ecu. thanks in advance.

1: use the truck accessories to ease install
2: use the truck comp but you will need a fairly modified program
3: get a custom harness made and graft the necessary stock wires into it
4: 'reflash' is reprogramming the ecm

how far is Plano, Texas from Laredo, Texas. I would consider taking it over there, if they've done the swap before. How much would you charge for the complete swap?
