Any 454SS owners out there? Im having some problems with mine after the following mods; EDEL 2162 cam, EDEL 3764 intake, Hooker Supercomps, JET AFPR set at about 13 psi, true dual 2 1/2's with high flow cats, no muffs, and the timing bumped up. I run a minimum of 91 octane in it. First of all, the performance increase did not satisfy me. I noticed some top end increase, but now when im crusing at anywhere between 20-40 mph and step on it I get a heavy hesitation with an occasional backfire. This is embarrasing and I need some help. Ive pulled the plugs and they look good still.Would a custom burned chip help maybe? Im pretty stumped guys and could use some help ASAP as its getting close to crusing season.

Bump your fuel pressure as high as you can go; 15-18 at minimum, I'd say at first... Your cam/intake/headers increased your volumetric efficiency, so you're pulling more air through the motor than the injectors can fuel on the stock chip. Bump your fuel pressure till you can get a chip burned for it. The factory chip can't keep up with the demands placed by the upgrades.

By increasing the fuel pressure, you're increasing your flow in lbs/hr, and perhaps the factory chip's base pulse width (i.e. how long it holds the injectors open) will be sufficient, at least to keep it in daily-driver status. A new chip WILL be required to get the most out of the mods.

Check if distributer is loose, also bad gasket under the TBI will cause backfire and hesitation....I ran 13.5 fuel pressure at 12* BTDC timing with that set up and it ran perfect.

Thanks for the help guys! I will be sure to check the distributor, gonna have to wait on the chip until I can afford both it and a bored out TB.
