so im looking for some 35x1250s. and the thornbirds caught my eye because my truck is a daily driver and will see some fair ammount of bogging/trail running.
im gonna be going with a 3 inch BL and then maybe some blocks and cranking a bit if i need it. (think ill need it?)
anyone have oppinions on the thornbirds ? i liked them for their price (around 200 a tire in my size)
any other recommendations in the same price range and size would be appreciated too

the thorbird suck i had them on my sonoma 33/12.50. they arent bad in deep mud but get in surface slop and they wont go anywhere. they didnt wear to bad but were noisy. pictures in my gallery.

I love the look of the thornbirds, very aggressive. They are a good sand tire and good in deep goo, but with some experience with them they dont excel in any area, they are more of a multi purpose tire. Most people run them for looks more then anything. And dont wear bad on the highway. Although they will get noisy with wear.

my sonoma was a :hack: job. 3 inch body lift, bushwacker cut out flares, torsion crank, and air shocks in rear. and a vacume actuator that hardly ever worked. i was stuck more than i was playing. check prices on natinal tire and wheel not too bad also look at micky t's claws. gettin ready to try them for awhile.

a friend of mine has the sonoma now, has over 450,000 miles on it and runnin strong. thought about buyin back.(solid axle swap toy)

i put 33 12.5 thorns on 16x10 wheels on my friends 95 scsb. with a 3"bl, tbar crank, and an inch off the front bumper they fit with slight rubbing. those side lugs like to catch on things. not the best off road tire, but they do look mean on the street. I'll try to get you a pic

id be running mine on an 8 inch wide wheel...
would something maybe like a trxus STS or MT .something without those massive side knobs clear better? seems kind of like an obvious question. but never hurts to ask.
some pics would be great.
what if i went with a 4 inch suspension lift ? i mean, its about 3 times what i was looking to spend, but i guess i could do it eventually.

alright another post after i did more thinking... sorry to keep changing things up, its been a brain storming kind of night.... im running dunlop at 265s now (small)...
but im on a 305 tbi, and i dont think i really ahve too tough of gears, so i think i may save the extra rotational weight and trimming and such . and just go with the 34x1250's ... being that swampers are said to run true to size, id be gaining quite a bit of beef over my meats now.
what do you think ? 34s or 35s? 34s just seems more... simple.

i would think you would be ok with 35's with body lift and crank. but the 34's would be able to flex better with less rub.

yeah i think i would favor flex more then i would the extra half inch of clearance. i dont plan on being TOO extreme. i could probably get away with my 265s... but who wants taht ? not me

i started looking at dunlop MT's they look like theyd get the job done (315x75x16) and theyre cheaper... but just dont LOOK as good to me.
also looking at m/t mtz's ... oppinions on either the dunlops or the m.ts ?

You want a good looking tire in 35X12.5 ...........You can get 35X14 Boggers for less than the Turdbirds. Only thing I see is a rubbing issue so you could go with 33's or 34's but I would rock the Boggers......ohh wait I will be lol.

yeah boggers would be my ultimate choice... but i heard they wear out real quick.
i still am not really convinced that i could fit 34x1250s or 315x75s without rubbing issues though.
wildbill, you really only had to take an inch off the bumper to get rid of your rubbing with those 36s?

my sonoma had 33's on it. if i was you i would run 33's or the 34's like you suggested. if u were to do real wheeling i think you would rub with 35's,just my opinion. but i have never run a truck like yours so i wouldnt know honestly.

you didnt really think this was over did you???
ok im narrowing my decisions... down to the final 2.... for some reason the SSR radials are really tall... do they wear down fast or something?
anyway. its a multiple vote poll so let me know what you think. which tire, and if lift is needed... thanks.

SSRs dont wear too fast. Their better than all the other swampers besides the trxus's as far as wear. I'd go with the 285s and just a torsion crank or 34s a TB crank and a BL.

thats what i was hoping to do, but it seems so odd that the 285s are actually 34s instead of the 33s like they "should" be... i guess they fit because theyre narrower or something though

Thanks i wish i could get some new pics i,ve done a lot of cleaning and painting underneath i also have 4"spindles to put on now , i think the thornbirds look cool but think the big side lugs would cause me problems , i say just pick what you like if it turns out it wasnt that great of a decision then next time get something different ,i,m bad about letting a couple of people change my mind on things like this . good luck i know its tuff deciding , i think i dreamed about tires for two months before i got mine and i could probably go to work in a tire shop and know more about the tires than the guys working there after all my searching lol

i know exactly what you mean, ive been tire shopping non stop for forever now, i keep going back from 285 dunlops and no lift, to 34s and a BL.

I think you will have a few rubbing issues, they are just like a bogger, the lugs grab everything! But they will look cool, I like the tire as far as looks go, but anything else I wasnt impressed! Sand is a big no, they just dig, and I duno bout really deep mud, but surface slop is a big negitive! I have the Baja Claws and they are a big 10-4 in every situation, sand, street, mud! Awsome! My vote is Baja claw!:10:
