thas kinda like when i had stock tires i could take it in 3ft of mud anytime any day, then i got my TSLs and for like 2 months all i heard was that truck better not be in mud..then i bring it home muddy and get yelled at for 5 minutes
i dunno wtf
but i can go muddin and get it nasty as crap and take it through whatever i want when i want as long as i tell em
but if i go through 1 mudhole unplanned, all he\\ breaks loose

awsome, I ordered 37x12.50 Mud Terrains. I have 17x8 wheels and I am going to mount the 37s on them and see how it looks if it looks to narrow I will get some 17x10s. I really really dont like the wheels sticking out at all that is why I went with the x8s.

I love to wheel except I don't have any place to go except behind my parents. Which I can no longer do b/c I have it so torn up that I am automatical up the bumpers soo they don't want me back there b/c the 4 wheelers have a hard time pulling the cart to get wood.

I go about every other weekend. I just posted this in another thread but what the hell.
This was a shot taken sun afternoon as we were packing up. The mud jammed up my starter and I had to smack it with a hammer while someone turned the key. When I pulled it off the next day I couldn't believe how much mud was inside it. Then it burned out later that week. I got the hookup on parts and a new one only cost me 35 bucks.

I doubt I count since mine is 2wd but 2wd are capable off roaders no less. Anyway ever since I got the new wheels the farthest mine has gotten off road was going down an oil field pumper road with some dead tumble weeds on either side and a few whoopty do's here and there. I don't want to scratch it ya know.

Its just time for flanges, 35 spline chromo stubs(maybe inners too) and some Longfield 300m u-joints. If you spent the money on the Atlas you might as well spend some more cash to use it to its full potential, especially with a long truck like we got. Front digs would be sweet.

THough it pitiful the last time i got to do any muddin was totally un intentional. I was home over Easter and i was checkin cows in my burb, end of calven (for those unformiliar with ranchin thats when cows have babies) and the permafrast is liften so its a little muddy and it trying to snow. SO im driven into this field in 2wd and go up a hill and loose speed, kick it into 4wd but it takes a sec for it to decide to engage the hubs. by this time im barely moven foward sideways oh yeah, and have almost slid into a gate. Right past the gate is a big ol hole thats got the consitancy of chit through a goose on laxitives. I didnt think i was gonna get through it luckily right before i got stuck the driver front wheel touch slightly harder chit and managed to pull her on out. My poor gale had mud all the way up on roof, not just lightly either i mean full cover. Should have taken pic sorry. I went back to college that day and got nothin but comments from the city kids driven there beemers.
Now i dont want to be an a$$ but hey you guys please dont be goin along and see a field and decided to take a trip through it. I say this bc my old man was talkin to me yesterday and i guess some a@@ decided to go through one of our hay fields and tore the chit out off it. Thats alot of work for him to fix now.
Thanks guys sorry to bring in a low point.

I go whenever I can, try to get out once every 2 weeks, but, I have only had the truck a couple months now, and every weekend I am usually working on it cuz sumthin else broke. Got most of the crap slapped back together and my transfer case is leaking again. It's a never ending battle. and I hate to be more cautious, the thing is built for offroad, but I need to be able to get to work too. The previous owner had told me he had my baby in like 3 feet of mud before, If I can find some mud in the desert I will get some better pics :)

I was curious as well. Im told that it didnt work real well. I guess he wasnt able to get it to hold. He kept dragging it thru the muck....
However when we went to dig it out, it was pretty much gone, as in we couldnt find it.
I think that it prolly would of worked fine under normal conditions.
Keep in mind that I have a 15000lb winch, and I still needed to snatch block him outta there.. While strapped to a big pine tree.
Ive never actually used one though.

i do most of my wheeling on the fourwheeler or dirt bikes, sometimes the jeep, the HD rarely gets wheeled, but thats because i dont have the money for a lift and bigger tires, for now it does extraction duties for everyone else, ill take it through mud about up to the rockers to get to the big hole to pull everybody eles out, cept that black sfa truck that lost 4wd in the middle of the hole, made it through the deepest part, but the only way to pull it back out was back through the deep(up to its door handles almost) so that required a 8wd tractor

The nastiest mud I've ever seen was in the Everglades. It's not thick gumbo mud at all. It's light and fluffy mud and you won't get any traction no matter what tires you have. And it gets pretty deep out there. Hell it swallowed that ValueJet jet that crashed into the Glades a few years back and they only found a few pieces of that thing.

I go wheeling ever chance i get in the Tahoe usually every weekend during the school year. And all summer i get payed to do some wheeling, i work for the DNR and when we go to wildfire calls we make our own roads and trails with 6x6's and other huge 4x4 fire trucks and when im not doing that i have a lifted dodge ram 2500 work truck with a winch and some 35 inch MT/R's so i get that stuck every chance i get...haha. And if im not doing one of those im riding ATV's through the deepest mud i can find.

I never go off roading specifically just to do that. Occassionally while hunting or fishing I might hit some off road type terrain. Mostly I have a 4X4 because of our NH winters. 2WD trucks are horrendous here during the winter. Have gone that route in the past and no thanks to it ever again. I also waterfowl hunt until mid February each year so I need the 4X4 to get the boat up and down icy and snow covered ramps. Impossible with a 2WD. I also do carpentry work on new homes and the job sites can be pretty muddy at times.

I go as often as I can but mostly do a whole lot of trail riding and hunting. That's why I tend to lean more toward functional when I am adding anything to the truck. Probably wait till after this hunting season then going to start looking toward some more lift, gears/lockers and 35x14.5 TSL's. I get mud on the truck every chance I get. I now just need to get bigger tires. Im kinda broke so i cant afford new tires. It sucks, i have 35" x 12.5 x 16.5 BFG allterrians with 75% tread sitting in my yard, but i dont have 16.5 inch rims.

I love to wheel except I don't have any place to go except behind my parents. Which I can no longer do b/c I have it so torn up that I am automatical up the bumpers soo they don't want me back there b/c the 4 wheelers have a hard time pulling the cart to get wood.
theres gota be somwhere you can go. I think it would be pretty ****ty if you lived somewhere where there wasnt much mud.

We've been going out a bit more. This last trip was to an old lava flow, might not look to intense till you realize the rocks you're on are the roofs of lava tubes criss crossing the flow. The red CJ/buggy almost dropped into one over 10' deep.

havent had the 2500 offroad much, about all its done is pull out duty for my friends when they get stuck in the big hole that my truck has no chance at, but i do have to run about 120yds through mud just below my stepbars to get there to pull them out, running in ruts made by 44 swampers, and tractors run through it daily, nothing hardcore, but its somethin,
the 8" lift may make me a little braver soon

Thanks, those are my rock tires. Does really well in the old lava flows but the lava chews them up pretty fast.

I haven't had a chance yet, since I just bought my truck. I will do a little light wheelin' though. I think as a redneck with a 4x4 for it's required. Mud cleans off, and a little suspension work never hurt any truck. I don't plan on abusing(such a harsh word that my wife uses) this truck though. It's got to last me a while.

Well bird season opened on Saturday and I headed up at 3:00 am. Was doing well bagging some birds!
Decided to go to another area and was on a narrow single track with a drop off on one side. Another hunter was coming down so I gave him the right of way and drove off to the side.
I started to side slip down the hill and stomped the gas to get back on the road. The boggers hooked up good and sent me flying, I hit a couple of lava rocks and ended up shearing the driver side upper control mount off.

Had my family pick me up with the trailer. But the Tahoe was 4 inches too wide, had to put my spare on and had to borrow another spare from a cool hunter with a Tacoma to get it to fit on the trailer.

A few weeks ago we had the Redneck Olympics at school. It was so cool. To fill yall in, to stay a club here at ABAC we must be involved in an activity that has a club from a different division than yours. Our club, the ABAC Cooners, is an Ag Division Club. So we talked to two different clubs, the Baptist Campus Ministries and the Political Science Club.
The events we had were a pie eating contest, tug-o-war in the mud, a hay bale throw, arm wrestling, a mud pit sprint, calf dressing, and a "Redneck Relay" which consisted of a dog poop toss, wheel-barrow race, a three legged race, and ended with a mud-belly flop contest. Our club won the over all.
But I think the coolest thing was, before we started the games, we had to make the mud pit. I saw some trucks messing with the pasture before me and some guys went and got some of the coon dogs to "represent yo", and I was wanting to go through it just for ****s and giggles, but we needed to go get the dogs before time would not permit us to make the 30mi round trip. Long story short, we get back in time and I park. Go look at the pasture and decide Im gonna find who I need to talk to to ask them if I can go through it. I didnt find them; she found me. I moved my truck into the pasture above the wet spot because Ive got the PA hooked up to my CB and they wanted me to announce stuff. After I cut the truck off some folks that thought of this activity come up to me and tell me to go tear up the bottom of the pasture (it made it even better that it was on the school's property ). I almost pooped my pants. I have been waiting my whole life to hear someone of authority TELL me to go tear up a pasture and make it into a mud hole . I get down there and see the ruts that three other trucks made when they got stuck. They were two Heavy Chevys, one 3/4 ton on 33s, and the other stock, and a 'yota on 33s. The only thing the Administrator said to me was, "Dont get stuck". I told her Id try my best to not. I was the only one that didnt get stuck , and I think I did a pritty damn good job of soppying up the pasture. Ill try to get some pictures off a buddies' camera of the pasture when I was runnin through it.
All in all, the games were a success. Afterwards we were gunna have a heads up game of 4x4 tug-o-war/ time trial through the mud. But the Administrator said we aught not since we didnt have waivers saying the school was not liable for anything that happened to your truck. But we will next time.

Someone probably called on us. It was me, my buddy with a stock 89'Chevy 1500 i believe(made it through more than our buddy with a jeep with a 4" lift and 33's....thats a chevy for ya) and our other buddy with a Geo tracker....that tracker ran down more trees than ive ever seen, im thinkin about buyin one for a couple hundred buck and just have some fun with it. But there really isnt much to do in CT. It makes me wanna take road trips to come check out all your mud.

ya the neighbours love it... i usually shovel what falls off though.
Its just time for flanges, 35 spline chromo stubs(maybe inners too) and some Longfield 300m u-joints. If you spent the money on the Atlas you might as well spend some more cash to use it to its full potential, especially with a long truck like we got. Front digs would be sweet.
i fully agree with this post right here...bobby long has the best warranty on broken parts on the market. i'd go with the outer and inner chromollys plus the ujoints...you won't regret it.i'm installing my 30 spline longfields in my toyota axle this friday :read:

Not in the Burban, I keep the offroading to the Zuk! My Buddy has a Short Box Z71 that he plays a little with when his Toyota Offroader is down, but most of the Big machines cannot go through the trails well, thus the need for the Zuk.

I used to wheel more, but after the last (and only time) I sunbk my truck (pic in sig), my parents flipped, and I'm not allowed to wheel anymore.
I swear I would have made it through if my tires were'nt baled (just got fresh ones) but for now, I'm done
I want to lift my truck this summer, but I'm not sure the parents will allow me to, so I might have to buy a jeep or a k5 blazer, and build that up :)

I went trail riding this weekend. The only thing i got video of was me spinnin around in a field. My new motor has the power to spin em good so i was having some fun. About half was through the video you can see the front tire come off the ground a bit.

Wow, that last picture is impressive.
I really want to go do some wheeling, being that it just warmed up and all the snow melt, probably creating some nice mud.
one of my friends want to go though, and I'm kind of afraid to go myself...

nice pics guys, and I go pretty much every time it rains, so being in Texas, not very often. but here lately, me and a few friends have emprovised. every time the mud hole in my back yard dries up, we haul water in with a 400 gallon tank. then we are the only people around with mud!! I'll geet some pics when we dig it deeper-like 3 feet deep, and when it rains cause hauling water really sucks.

I grew up right next to College Park in Riverdale. It's a really sweet spot off of 197. We should should hook up. There is alot of stuff up in Beltsville too. PM me with contact info. Maybe go out tomorrow? Should be good after the snow melt.

I go when I can, but I usually ride the quad more than the truck. And when the truck gets driven it gets driven HARD. And to play you gotta pay. I did go out and play in some deep snow 2 weeks ago, and smoked my trans. :( This is what came off just the drain plug, I don't even want to know what is inside the pan on the magnet. Now I gotta pay.

Never, its too much trouble to clean. Last time it took me 6 hours.
And you idiots who say use a sprinkler, what a dumb idea. Thats takes even longer, and it never reaches the hidden parts of the frame. When i clean mine, there is no mud left.
Many people don't give a **** if there is mud on the hidden parts of the frame sprinkler gets most and u just let it run no scrubbing involved. The reason i own a 4x4 is to use and sometimes abuse it.
If you have enough time to spend 6 hours cleaning your frame more power to you. That doesn't make the rest of us idiots. Just means we have lives to live.
Edit: some newer pics. Gotta get the axles swapped and get some new ones.

look at the second pic, that proves you could care less about what you paid for. Me on the other hand, i pay a lot of money for this truck and i do use it. I use my truck more than you use a ****ing tahoe i'll guarantee you.
I care about whats under my frame because its sitting there rusting enough on its own, without 80 lbs of mud underneath that a sprinkler didnt get.
Whatever floats your tahoe.
No i care about it. That right there is what i enjoy as offroading. Many people drive down a dirt road and call it offroading, but I enjoy seeing how far i can push my truck. My bronco had mud caked under the frame since we bought it new in 1984 and the frame never rusted out. I use my tahoe for offroading. where are your wheeling pics?

First of all down South we call it muddin, wheelin is for power wheels. I have a few still pics of my truck muddy, but none in mud. Next time I go I'll be sure to get stuck and post the infamous pic of "truck sitting in mud with strap tied to it" as everyone likes to post. I'm not going out and tearing my **** up just to prove something to you.

jeez someone has a little sand in their curtains...
my 35 year old truck was used primarily as a farm vehicle, and never got washed in any way until the rain hit it. it was romped through pastures full of mud and manure, down dirt roads, and gravel. it was also my grand dads DD for at least 20 years. the frame is 100% solid, no flaking or pitting, only surface scale. there is dirt in that frame that hasn't set on the ground since the early seventies im sure. mud doesn't rust frames out.

Do not take my posts so literal. I'm referring to the underbody of the truck in general , not just the frame.
And to the sand in beef-curtains thing. I simply posted that it took me 6 hours lying under the truck to get all the mud out above and below, and that anyone who says a sprinkler will work is stupid. I never said anyone on this thread said that, hell, i only read the first 2 pages. Then jackass tahoe over here commented about how its great that I have time to wash my truck....He needs to take care of his business and he'll have all the time in the World.:rocking:
BTW, yes, mud does rust frames out. Especially teamed up with the 100% humidity we have here in South Texas.

I commented on your 6 hour cleaning time because you comment on the sprinkler trick. I have used the trick and it gets most of the visible mud off. While it is running i can do homework, study, go to work. Glad you have 6 hours to clean your frame that nobody sees. When you are rolling in your "muddin" equipt "5% tint round billet and colormatched stuff-2 sets of airhorns" sounds like many useful mods there.

Once again, I could care less what you/everyone else sees. Its what I know is there doing nothing but rusting. You'd be surprised where dirt and mud could seep into, CV Joints, gaskets, seals, nothings safe.
But then again judging by the interior pic maybe you wouldnt be surprised.
When you are rolling in your "muddin" equipt "5% tint round billet and colormatched stuff-2 sets of airhorns" sounds like many useful mods there.
You're right, they are just about as useful as your tahoe.
chevytaHOE5674
07-30-2007, 09:56 PM
how is my tahoe not useful? the majority of the mod i have done are to increase its offroad ability. I take care of my truck, i maintain what needs to be maintained.
Edit oh yeah, my frame has no more rust than my dad 01 street driven tahoe. I don't care how much mud you have. When you have road salt all winter that will rust faster than any mud out there.

Try stuffing your entire college living amenities in your pickup and driving 9 hours in the rain/snow/sleet/salt, mine get there dry and clean yours wouldn't... Exactly, thats why they invented trailers to turn SUV's to pickups and pickups to SUV's. I bet you haul dirt in your truck on a daily basic just to justify your "muddin" truck

I have a 88 k2500 with a 3" BL on 35x12.50's and i get mine dirty as much as i can some friends and i hit up the local mud holes some times. then we hit the woods some times too. the woods deals are kinda a spur of the moment thing at like 9-10pm and get back about 1-2am and have to get up for work in the morning. kinda sucks because 2 of the guys i go with have yotas on 35's they are to light to get me out of deep stuff. one friend had a stock 99 k2500 diesel when we can talk him into going but he still has a hard time getting me out some times. having the biggest truck out of all your friends kinda sux because if you get stuck they cant get you out.
these are the only muddy pics i have they are at the mud hole the day i sucked up water and blew the motor :nopity:
