shorty headers bad? LT good..?

So the general consensus is that shorty headers aren’t worth the money…but long tubes are good? Are LT’s hard to route through on a 4x4? I had shorty JBA’s on a dodge and liked them.

Wish I had long tube. Dam CA. Smog. I have shorties better then nothing.I had no option. At least it makes the engine look good. Maybe 5-10 H.p.

Shorty headers are not bad... just not worth the money on NBS trucks. On the OBS trucks, shorty headers are a pretty good improvement over the factory manifolds.

LTs are generally considered to be better "bang for buck" on both OBS and NBS trucks for at least a couple reasons: longer primaries give better low-end grunt and top-end power On OBS exhaust setups, the headpipes had some constricting bends - down to 1-7/8" from 2-1/4" On NBS setups, which already have shorty headers from the factory, shorties are not worth the money

LTs are definitely more difficult to install compared to shorties, which are almost always drop-in replacements. 4x4s are gonna have more difficulty than a 2x4 setup due to the extra equipment up front (suspension, transfer case, etc). Not that it can't be done, but all LTs don't lend themselves to the 4x4 install out of the box.

Your in luck!! This shop specifically has LT's for the NBS 4x4. Pacesetter's are very popular among the NBS trucks. There were tons of guys wanting this headers for thier 4x4 but werent available for a long,long time, 'tll now! Like tiger mentioned shorties wont improve anything on the GenIII v8's.

The OBS headpipes or the pipes on the 1/2 to trucks that connect the manifolds to the catalytic converters measure 1 7/8" OD and crimp down smaller than that on the non mandrel bends.
The 3/4 ton Vortec 350 trucks use headpipes that measure 2 1/4" OD which look like they would flow better than the 1/2 tone headpipe assembly. The cats on the 3/4 ton trucks are larger as well.

Longtubes, with dual 2 1/2" headpipes and dual 2 1/2"cats into turndowns, along with a PCM tune dropped my 1/4 mile time by 3/4 of a second.

As stated above shorties are worth the money on the OBS trucks, but the NBS trucks already have some nice flowing stock cast manifolds.
The HD 3/4 ton 6.0L engines uses dual 3" cats and piping into a dual 3" in single out muffler. Thats huge for 364 cubic inches.

98 5.7 1500, so the the shorty's bolt right on with no need to go to the shop?? I already have true duals installed and the cool air intake, I would like to pick up a set of headers and bolt them on with out having to spend nay more money at the exhaust shop.

yes shorties will bolt right in without modifying anything.

The NBS manifolds are still really logs on the PASS side. Also, the pipe is only 2.5 where it bolts on, then goes to almost 3 inches.

Pacesetters are nice, but not legal in CA or any smog state.

I have been looking at the Doug mid lengths. A tad pricey and need welding.

Bassani looks good too, but $$ and welding still.

So what would be the best shorty??

IMHO, Edelbrock Shorties are your best bang for the buck and they are very well made and have a good fit as well. They are also 50 state legal
