On another board---A member was saying how he used the factory OEM shock absorbers on his truck which was lowered 4/5.25". Is this a better setup than installing a lowered shock absorber? Just curious.........:D :D

It's physically possible, but won't ride worth a sh*t and probably blow them out in a matter of miles.:(

Before I had bagged my dually I had a 5-7 belltech drop. I couldn't afford new shocks so I stuck with the stockers for around 6 months. When I got new ones I went through a set of KYB's, a set of BellTech Nitros, and another set of KYB's in a year. All front shocks by the way. I swapped the stockers back in and all was great again.
I ran the stockers another year before I bagged the front of my truck. Now I have Monroes up front and AirRide shocks in the rear.
I would say on a normal spring/flip kit drop (no bags) the stockers would be fine on a Chevy. If you bag it toss them. I also had stock shocks on my older 94 1500 and those also lasted the longest.
SOOOOOO, in terms of 88-98/99/00 old body Chevy trucks with stock shocks it would be fine....other trucks......i dunno...

Two different opinions, and now I'm confused. A set of Edelbrock IAS shock absorbers would be nice, and I am using shock extenders in the rear. :read: :confused:
my shocks for the back of my truck were on backorder for 2 weeks. i used the stock shocks with the flip kit during that time. passenger side had about and inch and a half of travel before bottoming out. drivers side had about an inch. so stock shocks don't work to well on the 99-up.

i'm guessing your refering to swervins sweet ride! he used shock extenders out back and the shocks he has on the front aren't direct replace ment stock height shocks. i think he somehow told them how long he needed the shock to be and what the travel was and they looked up the ias's that fit into that catagorey. i belive this is correct but ask him to make sure. i sure he also has the part numbers and would be happy to give them to you if you want them.

the ias's are sweet shocks if you want good cornering and smooth ride at the same time. i don't know about those adjustable d-techs. i have the non adjustables and they are ok but nothin special.

Not available in a lowered application. Plus, if I had a custom set made---It would cost! :read: Your truck probably rides only "okay" because of the Smooth-Rider coils---Way too soft IMO. That's why I am going with Eibach springs. :D

smooth is the opposite of what my truck rides;) its stiff as a board side to side as well as up and down. no body roll with only a factory front sway bar. if you want stiffer springs than these get ready for a rough azz ride. if they are 'way' too soft and your truck is gonna be stiffer than i would suggest wearing a mouth peice when you drive it or your gonna rattle your teeth out.:) thats why i wish i would have held off alittle whole and bagged it.
trust me you can get the ias's to bolt right on to a truck with a 4/5.25 drop. i have seen it with my own eyes. they don't have a direct part number that list for our trucks but they have ones that are the correct size but listed for other applications. :D
the adjustable d-techs might be the way to go i don't comment on them cause i have no expireance with them.
don't mean to touch any bottons just letting you know what i think from my expireance with these trucks:cool:

My truck will ride decent, and will handle like CRAZY! I am lowering my truck 5/7"...........Plus, I like the adjustability of the Doetsch Tech units. :D :D

get ready to lay a arm on the pavement too. mine does it often only have 2.5 inches of clearence from a arm to ground.
remeber i lowered 5/7 already so you dont' have to tell me what it will handle like;)

I know your just giving me advice, and your opinion---Not trying to push buttons. I appreciate, and enjoy hearing other people's opinion. No offense, but my truck will handle better. My setup is the following: DJM 3" spindles, Eibach 2" coils, P-S-T Polygraphite front end rebuild kit, front Hellwig anti-sway bar, and DJM 5" flip kit, DJM 1" hangers, DJM 1" shackles, new OEM leaf springs with Pro-Thane bushings, rear Hellwig anti-sway bar, Doetsch Tech adjustable shock absorbers at all four corners. Once again, not trying to brag' or anything. I have all the parts except the leaf spring bushings. BTW, your truck is awesome! <---- I'm not just kissing your :ba: either. :D :D

no question about, with that front end rebuild kit and front/rear bars your truck will easily out handle mine. was just trying to warn you about the rough ride it will have and tell you it was possible to run the ias's on a 4/5.25 drop like you asked in the post. i wouldn't even run them on a 5/7 though.
only had my truck for 5 months and it was stock when i got it. i decided to make it fast and leave the rest of the suspension as is until i have time to bag. installing comp cam 268h xe next month and with the 2300 stall it should boil the tires through a couple gears. i'm more intersten in 1/4 mile than road course type stuff.
can't wait to see your truck. keep me updated

No you don't "need" them, the 73-87's will lay arm with a spindle and standard plate/cup bag setup up front.
You can install the bag setup then measure the upper/lower shock mounts from fully extended to fully compressed.

yea i agree, i've got a 6/10 drop on my 86 and it nails the arms all the time if your not careful, and rides like ****, but damn does it look good with 22's

well thing is that the stock shock mounts in the rear ar unusable now that we notched the frame. and im looking for a car/truck shock that uses a 2 bolt mount instead of a ubolt mount like in a s-10 but that seems to be all i can find that is short enough. and with me layed out right now (we have everyting done just about except for puting the bed on and mounting the rear shocks) my a arm are like a 1/2 inch from ground which i dont mind but the frame has like 2 to 21/2 inches.....hell my gas tank is closere to draging then my frame....(not really).
