View Full Version : Anyone heard or used a Pro Box loaded enclosure?

I'm looking at a simple way to add a 12" sub to the back of my OBS/EC. I've narrowed it down to the Pro Box 12" single or the Subthumps 12" single box.
Pro Box is having their own subs built to spec for their box, handles 400 watts rms, I don't know any other specs.
Anyone had any experience with them?

never had any experience with a loaded probox but we sell the unloaded ones at work, they are really nice boxes.

Good to know, thanks! I'm leaning on the probox, they'll ship me one $150 shipped to my door in Minnesota. Not bad.
I have an old Rockford Pro 12" in the closet, I'm just going to try to use that if it has a shallow enough mounting depth....I just have concerns about the quality of a sub that comes loaded...too easily could be junk to make an extra buck. IMFO.

i have a dual downfiring probox for 2 10's in my x-cab. I hooked up 2 Fosgate P3's in the box and they hit like a mutha! Had it in my truck for over a year now. Best part is the fact that it is loud as hell on the inside, but get 10 feet from the truck and all you hear is a soft thump. Great IMO!

had a friend that had a loaded probox 12 off a kicker amp, and it hit surprisingly hard.....

Do you think it's a good deal to get it loaded for an extra $100?
Sure takes a lot of guesswork out of the equation....

Pro Box Rocks!
Gerald knows his stuff on boxes and has been in the business for a long time. I would not hesitate on buying a box or a loaded box from him.

I know you better than that, you could easily build something better for $150 (actually closer to $20 especially if you use my FG for the bottom). What I don't like is the 5/8 MDF and the fact that you only get .85 cuft of airspace. Since I know you keep stuff, email me the t/s specs on the Rockford and I will model it for you. I am sure it will be really, really cramped in that small of a box though. I couldn't find squat on their loaded sub, but am sure I can find you a used one that is better for less than a hundo. Give me a call or email. Oh, you can hear my truck now! (but I leave for Germany for a week tomorrow).

For a quick drop in these are great. I eeked out 1.2 ft^3 under my rear seat, drivers side and over the hump. Downfiring with a fiberglass bottom running over the hump. Then built an amprack the same shape for the otherside so it looks like one big box under the seat. Colormatched carpeting of course.
Dave.
EDIT.. heres a couple crap cell phone pics, just went outside and took them.

Ive got a duel downfiring pro box in my x-cab truck with two 12" cadence flash subs on a MTX TC4001 and that setup right there beats the hell out of the truck. the best part like the guy above said its loud as hell on the inside but get about 10 feet away and theres no rattleing or bass escaping from inside the vehicle.

That is what I think Josh should do as well. At 1.2 there are a lot more subs to choose from depending on the depth. Heck for $150 you could buy the seat lift kit and easily build a box underneath the seat then.

For that small of an enclosure (the ProBox), you might check into a Dayton HO or HF 12". The specs listed on Parts Express' website require very little airspace in a sealed enclosure.
I'll know a bit more of what the actual sub sounds like tomorrow (in a 10"). I've never used this model of Dayton, but A. I have used Dayton before, and they're good quality for the $ (about $140, either, shipped), and B. I have a 10" HO sitting on my doorstep as of this moment.

I haven't heard that sub either, but have read rave reviews. You could easily fit a pair of 10's under your seat as they are only 5" deep and actually like small enclosures. The 12's are only 5.375" deep and would probably be fine in .5cuft. Of course depending on your amp choice you could run 1 ported as well, but that will be more effort as the port will have to be pretty long for such a small enclosure.
edit: looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the 10 klown and would love to see install pics.

I tested the HO for a little last night. I was fairly impressed. To my ear, the 10" HO seemed to put out more than my Kicker Comp VR (old school). I was powering it with an old Kenwood 600W (peak) amp (that's about 1/2 the sub's RMS). Plus, the box size is rediculously small. (according to the specs on Parts Express' site, .30-.35 cubic feet, sealed) The box it was in was right at .35, with no dampening. Before the final install, I will add just a bit of polyfill. I'll put up some pics of it when it's done!

I look forward to the pics and to what amp you finally decide on. Those would fit really easy under MnHiFlyr's seats.

I was lookin' last night while testin' out the sub, and I think with a little creativity, MDF, and fiberglass that I could get one of those 10"s under the seat of my OBS RC!!! I'm pretty sure it would fit, but the excursion would be the only thing to hinder the placement.

Yes. I'd like to try, because I think I'd be able to sell a loaded enclosure like this, and make some loot!:naughty:

I've heard a few girls claim to get wet from loud systems to begin with. I can't imagine what it'd be like for 'em with the sub yellin' straight down the tunnel. Might cause an echo!

I've never fully understood how a bandpass works. So, it's just a sealed enclosure firing into a ported enclosure?
