Hitch Ball Height??

Looking for a hitch for my receiver, but unsure of what height off the ground it should be.

It is not for a trailer that I already have, so I can't just check for a level trailer tongue. It is for when I may have to tow something in the future.

My truck is an old style 87 with a 4/6 drop and helper springs in the rear.
