Should be great if you listen to rock/metal/techno. Anything with fast hard beats. Might not go low enough for hip hop and rap though.

Do you think i would be able to port them? i listen mostly to rap. i want to upgrade my current subs and get rid of my prefab box, i dont want to lose ANY leg room, so i plan on glassin against the back wall. so i'm just throwing some ideas out there because i cant really find some shallow 12's i like

build a forward firing box to hold some Diamond D6 or the like if you listen to alot of rap. 12's and rap music go hand in hand IMO

I don't see why you couldn't port them. It would help output, but it's not going to make them go any lower.
Have you looked at the shallow subs from pioneer...

I've heard some good reviews on these subs and they can be had on ebay for less than half of their retail price. I want to get my lift/tires done first, but if I ever get around to doing a stereo I want three of these 12's. With 1000 watts or so in a standard cab that should slam! I don't know how tall you are, but if your willing to put the seat up a notch or two that will increase your options considerably. Personally, at 6'7" that is not an option.

Yeah i looked in to those when they first came out, but no one had any expriance with them, but i just looked them up again, they only need to be in a 0.8cuft box to be ported. i think i would be able to port three of them :head:

As long as you get good 8's I wouldn't worry about the low end. For instance, 3 Rli8's ported would get lower and have way more output than those skinny 12's.

I like the rli8's also, but I very much doubt that they could play down to 20hz as well as the 12" pioneer and the mounting depth on those 8's is 5.65" vs. 3.25" for the pioneer. They're also almost double the price. In a std. cab truck with the seats pushed all the way back that would probably be a pretty tight sqeeze to get them back there without having the cone smacking up against the back of the seat.
Have you taken any measurements to see exactly how much room you have to work with? I have a std. cab also, but I've yet to take a real close look at the area behind the seats.

I have 3 JL8W-6's in my RCSB, forward firing behind the seat just as you are thinking of doing. They sound very good. The box is sealed, but I don't remember what the volume was when I built it. They definitely hit pretty hard inside the cab. I am running them 4ohm mono off a Soundstream Reference 300 amp.
The only thing I lost installing this system was the spare tire jack. Very little, if any legroom was sacrificed.

You can't hear 20Hz, but even still I'd bet they have more output low if you port them then those Pioneers will ever have...actually I'd guarantee it.

definitely. it takes excursion to get low with any decent level of output; the rli 8's have this. Fs is also lower on the rli's......

there's many 8s out there that will distroy those pioneers on the low end. depending on what 8s you get, they'll sound fine.

there's also the crystal comp 8's that get nasty and hammer down. they run about $95 + shipping.

explosiveness and tight impact goes to the 1008.
price, powerhandling, bottom end, and loudest in a daily application (as long as you give it the full power it can handle) goes to the comp 8.
there's also the treo ssi 8, but it's about twice the price as the others. about as loud as the 1008, not as peaky on the impact, shallower mounting depth, can go into a .3 cube sealed.

that's a big negative. and with an 8", the depth sits lower in the box so it isn't as bad to deal with compared to the same depth in a 12".
kicker 8's can thump also.

I just have 2 RF Punch 1's in .6 ft3 sealed box and they rattle my mirrors and you can hear them for about 4 blocks with the windows down (mine haven't been rolled up in a month...gotta love the summer). With the windows up I can still be heard inside houses from about a block if I want to, but it requires my using earplugs, it's just payback on all my ****head neighbors....
I would give my votes to the 8's for SQ, 12's for bumpin ability.

I have 3 8" in my own truck. IT sounds great to me and depending on the speaker you go with it will play anything you want to listen to. I listen to a wide variety of music. It is not going to be super loud and carry down the street but should sound really good inside the cab or near the truck.
I could post some picks of the set up if you like.

In a regular cab truck. You have about 16" tall on the back wall 54" wide and the depth will very with your height. But with the right box and port you could get some good sound out of that air space. Depending on the speaker, and amplifier.

I'm pushing dual RE 8's ported off 600 watts. Sounds killer. They are tuned to 30hz in 1.2 cubes, stuff with polyfill.
Cant get better than that for $100. And I only used 2/3 of the width of the cab. You could easily do 4 8's sealed or 3 ported. The output of these surpassed my expectations. And I'm used to dual 15's, 18's and well over 1500 watts. I love mine!

I'm thinking i'm going to port whatever i go with, just to get the most SPL out of the whatever i get. i'm also considering two Infinity KAPPA 124.7W they only need 5" of mounting depth, and alot of the 8's that you guys are suggesting are close to that depth.

anyone tried the Assasin 8s yet? I am really wanting to try 3-4 8" subs ported in my truck to get back some floor space vs my 2 10s sealed but ah I dunno anymore.

I don't rember how much room was in my OBS reg cab. Anyway, I'm in process of down firing a JL10w6v2 in my 03 reg cab. I had this sub in my 2000 extended cab and should be plenty in the reg cab. I don't see why I couldn't run 3-4 this way if I wanted to. You might look at doing a down fire box. I don't think I would ever be happy with firing into the seat after hearing the same sub down firing.

the re's are decent. they had a little more output than they would appear to have. from what i've been able to test with both, the 1000 series DD > RE series. they both have their pro's and cons. good deal either way.

You need to sound deaden your truck, I am sure your system sounds like arse. Hopefully someday you will grow up and use your system to enjoy yourself and not compensate for what else you lack. Trying to make your system loud outside your vehicle is retarded as is your opinion: all of the recently discussed 8's will smoke your RF P1 12's.

The DD1008 is by far a better woofer. The picture I posted was just an example of what he could do
