I am still trying to decide on what sub to go with. I was looking at the Dayton quattro from parts express...seems to be a nice little sub from the price. I have also been reading good things about Memphis mclass subs and CDT ef-8's. I really like the fact that parts express covers their subs for 5 years! I have never heard of that before. I just wish I could hear all of them before I chose but here in Lafayette, it's all about fosgate and JL which makes me want to try something a little different. Literally, no one carries anything else but that. Thanks for everyone's help in advance.

the cdt ef 8s are suposed to be pretty good little subs.
crystal makes good 8 in as well also maybe check out image dynamics. try going to sounddomain.com and searchign "the great 8 challenge" or somethign like that. a guy did a review on a bunch of different 8's that was pretty damn subjective.
edit:heres the link. graphs are no longer there though.

good review, except he didn't run some of the subs up to their max. some of those could have used 500w or so to really make them shine. 200 on the comp 8's they're not even getting started.

what's your budget?
as great as loyd's great 8 challenge is, it looks at a very select set of circumstances.

OK, after reading a little more tonight, I narrowed it down to 2 subs. It is going to be the Ascendent Audio Assassin 8" or the Dayton Quatro 8". I think I am leaning a little towards the assassin right now since I am hearing it has very good SQ...I have yet to see any reviews about what the Dayton's sound like for SQ. I am ready to order this Monday morning so if anyone has any opinions of these, please let me know.

you won't see too much about any of the dayton stuff if looking on caraudio websites. check out www.diymobileaudio.com and www.diyaudio.com; there is usually some stuff on their products there.

I was in your same situation 3 months ago. I decided to get some Rockford Fosgate HX2's (8" of course) to go in my '97 Tahoe. I wasn't expecting them to be able to thump as loud as they do. They will push 400W RMS each (800W peak each). I've got them wired to a P5002 Rockford amp (spec sheet stated 626W RMS output). Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed.

if you can wait a few weeks theses will be something to think about. i have a prototype from a few years ago and that sub is awesome i put up to 900w to it all day and never had a problem. plus it was in a ported box tuned to 55hz and playe music like a champ.

What type of vehicle? What type of box (downfiring/ behind seat/ etc)? Sealed or vented? What amp or how much power do you have for it?

true but gives a good start and oneof the most in depth reviews on a series of subs ive seen. i think there is another one floating aroudn that compared a handful of 12s, but thats off topic. kinda surprising results if i remember right.
i second the rli-8, if i havent already and yeah the kickers will get loud but have questinable sq. i liked the 12s i had though. and the w7 is what i would like to go with but for the money you could probably get two or more 8s and get the same result if not better.
good luck wiht your purchase and be sure to post your results once you get the sub in. btw out of aa or dayton, i'd go with aa but ive never heard eitehr sub. aa is just the one i'd more rather try out right now.

Just a little update....I chose to go with the dayton quatro 8" over the AA for the fact that it will only use half the sealed space of the assassin and if I don't like the way it sounds, I can just send it back to parts express. I thought it would be worth a shot. the sub will actually be here sometime today. If the sq is a descent as I have been hearing, I see no reason why I would not enjoy my sub.
