Sticky by request, just because I'm a good guy

But I'm throwing a slight twist in there... Let us know how you use your rig too. I know some setups mainly see street duty while others see sand, mud, trails, etc. on a regular basis. Since this thread is to help give ideas, I figured it'd be good to know what application the setup is intended for also.

So post 'em up, guys!

Whats up guys? i drive a 98 silverado 2wd with a 4" rancho suspension lift, rear add-a-leafs 33-12.50-15 BFG mud terrains, 15X8 black rock crawler rims, thrush glasspack mufflers w/turndowns, a grillguard and 2-130 watt explorer procomp lights in the front. i use this truck as a daily driver but the lift is for offroading, not just for looks. i try to do alot of trail riding with some mud holes and occasionally i have a day of extreme mudding. its hard to do any rock crawling due to the fact that gears are stock and i have no posi, plus its 2wd. i love to explore new places and make my own trails, usually to find some place to hang out. right now im savin up to get the fabtech 7.5" lift and put some 35-12.50-15 procomp at's on it, but im haveing trouble deciding what gears to get. hope everyone else out there uses their 2wd like a 4.

I put the Rancho 4/2 lift on my truck 2 years ago, along with 32x11.50 BFG's. I still use the same 15 x 10 hurricanes that it had to begin with. I sometimes get offroad with it, but the biggest reason was because I was tired of how low the stock 2wd stance was. Starting off, the truck had 2" drop shackles in the rear and was rolling on 295/50 BFG's. After the lift, going from the low profile tires to where its at now, the total lift at the end was 7" front and 4" rear. I put the stock rear shackles back on, getting rid of the drop shackles it used to have. A year ago, I geared the it down from the stock 3.42's to 4.11's. BIG DIFFERENCE. Alot more snap now, and it also gets 2mpg better gas mileage than before the geardown, putting it back around what it was before I started the lift. I can't figure how to upload an image here, I was going to put a before & after up to show the difference, send an email if you'd like to see.

All right here we go, a big thanks Lorado to for showing me how to put up pictures. I did this lift all in my garage. I tell you what, I don't want to do that again, those coil springs and trying to line up the subframe (using only a jack & a hammer on my back) were a b&%$#! The before pics were right before I rolled it into my garage, and the 1st after picture was right after I brought it home from getting 32x11.50's. I know this thing aint no 4x4, but you gotta admit it looks alot better now than before. I would like to have a locker or a posi one day. If any of you are selling one, let me know

http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/2923/imga0872ss6.jpgafter......... Most of my driving is, to and from work. i do use it on my camping trips and when i go shooting. i probably didnt need to lift it, as i dont seek out the worst terrain. other than that, the stock stance sucks and i think its cool with spindle lift and a little bigger tire:cool:

Hey whats up guys? Just recently joined. I have an 03 Silverado Ext. Cab w/ a 12" total Lift on it. It uses a 7" Fabtech drop down kit and a 3" Performance Acc. Body Lift and a 2" Front Coil Spacer (Dont recomend that part..stiff ride) It used to ride on 37x12.50x17 Goodyear Wrangler MT/Rs with 17x8 Polished American Racing Mojave's. This was an amazing set-up of tire and rubber. I offroaded the hell out of this truck even with the body on it and it got places i never dreamed it would. Ive recently changed the wheels and tires to 37x13.50x20 Toyo Open Country M/Ts with 20x9 KMC XD Series Black Hoss.

Thanks a lot man..your truck looks super clean. sometimes i wish i had just left mine with the 7 inch Fabtech..haha. I love my new wheels and tires though, its crazy how many looks and compliments ive gotten. I was originally worried about the black wheels with my blue truck, but im very happy with the outcome. You going to do anything else to your truck?

Thanks dude. Your rig looks California style for sure now... I lived out there a couple years ago.

As far as mine goes... I've been thinking of lifting it more but I think I will save that for the next truck I get which will be 4wd and probably diesel. How does yours do with those 37's?

well i have a stock 02 tahoe 2wd with my torsion bars cranked. i have about 2" of lift in the front and the rear is stock height. in the pic it looks higher in the front but it is really about the same.
i use my truck to haul crap and drive off road. not anything crazy off road but places that my 90 crx can't go. the pic was taken at lake mead here in las vegas. there is a dirt road that you can take all the way to the water. i'm not saying i needed a truck to get there cause i've driven a 04 civic si to the water before, but in the civic i had to go really slow, in the tahoe i was going about 25mph
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d175/jdmcivicman/truck/mead-truck1.jpg
had a great time and this is the first place i've gone "off road" with the tahoe since we got it 3weeks ago.
i'll be getting the fabtech 3" lift spindle soon then i'm gonna get some spacers for the back to bring it back to level.

lol hell yea theres a decrease, but like I said before if youre driving at night and theres no cars around use your brights, and if there are cars around its usually lite up enough that it doesnt matter........
Ive managed so far, Im defintely going to look into how to get more light out of them, wether it be going to a brighter bulb or what I dunno.

Whats up guys. Here is my 2002 GMC Sierra 2wd. Lifted with a 14" bulletproof lift, and CST 4" spindle. 20X10 MB gunner 6 wheels with 39.5 STS tires.

Mostly drive on streets. I pull a car trailer with a track car, but thats about it. No major offroading with her except some dirt trails by my other house out in the desert, but thats it.

Here are some pics. Feel free to comment on it...good or bad.

I have a 2005 Silverado/ExtCab/Auto/2wd Silverado.
I am in the process of choosing a suspension lift for mine.
I want to keep or make the ride better.
I want a Durable Suspension, with NO major cutting.
It will be mainly on street with rare mud appearance.
Mainly for escaping flood waters here in N.Orleans area.
I am a fireman needing to stay and help when storms approach.
I am currently locked between Fabtech, CST, and RCD.
I would like to keep the Orginal 17 inch Alum. five star chevy wheels too if possible but with some all terrain tires.
Can anyone give me Suggestions, Info, or help?

I just added 32" wrangler a/t tires and will soon put a 3 inch rough country spindle lift. hopefully i will eventually get a add-a-leaf kit for the rear and spacers for the front. I plan on using my truck mostly on roads but on weekends and after schoool i like to go to the camp and cut up on the trails and in muddy fields with my friends.

Here's my 98 Chevy 2wd, v8 305. Main changes is a rear powertrax no slip locker, a front long travel control arms and lift spindles, got about 7" of lift before the coils sagged. homemade custom front bumper and rear cage/canopy/roofrack thing that I devised. I run it mostly on the beach, and light trails. But I thought I'd join all the subaru guys at a rallycross, here's some action shots.

Hello all... I am really new to this so I hope it works... I just recently purchased a 2007 Chevy Silverado z71 2WD... I had a Chevy Silverado 2001 Z71 back several years ago too... The question is this... I was able to even the front end of the 01 Z71 to the back end by tightening some screws if I am not mistaken... Can I do this too with the new 07 chevy??? PLEASE let me know... Here is my email... Arutlos@aol.com

i didn't know they make 2wd z71's

whiskeytown
05-06-2007, 04:09 PM
no you cant because those screws adjusted the torsion bars which you dont have, you have coil springs and to level it out you would need to buy coil spacers or new spindles...hope this helps

arutlos
05-07-2007, 06:15 PM
yes it does... thanks.... and yes the 2007 trucks can come z71 or z71 4x4's... i have the look, hight, skid plate, tires, hitch and other things but just not the 4x4... thanks for the help tho...

whiskeytown

well you seem to know your stuff... ok another question... I had dualed out my old z71 and it sounded great... I had flowmaster in it... now I read about the new super 44 or something of that sort... what do you think??? and if you have anyother cool **** or comments let me know... I'm really new to this...

whiskeytown
05-13-2007, 09:06 PM
well i know alittle bit and theres some guys on here that will give you better answers, but thanks..about the flowmaster i have the 40 series dumped at the the axle with echo tips and it sounds pretty damn good, dont know much about the 44...my brother just got magnaflows on his 07 classic and its not that loud but has a great low rumble to it...and one more thing, if you have a specific question i think youll get more feed back if you start a thread outside of this one...i think most of the guys on here don't look at this one as much...but just ask and someone will give you an honest answer...good luck

I use the truck for a lot of heavy towing and I'm about to hit 100,000. I think my transmission is about to bite the dust  but its just another opportunity for upgrades!

I paid about $1000 for the spindles, spacers, taper shims, shocks, and blocks. I got it all from performancelifts.com, they have the lowest prices for the spindles. Everything else you can find cheaper at other places, but you got to look around.

The truck was finished last week so it hasn't really been offroad yet. It will see about 70% street use and 30% offroad. It will mostly be mud and trails when offroad, I will also serve as my hunting rig. It has done good so far in the little bit of offroad it has seen so far( found a small mud hole yesterday and couldn't resist, I really need to get down to the river!) It is now averaging about 13.5 MPG with a heavy foot and 80mph on the highway. The ride is a bit stiff outback thanks to the extra leaf in the Superlift spring pack, but overall it is not bad.

Future plans: Custom UCAs so I can add more lift to the front, ss brake lines, brake rotor upgrade, and 37s once the 35s are gone.

prolly the easiest way is if you have coils....just put leveling kit in the front....and if its the independent then just maximize your torsion keys....right?

doing anything to the rear? you think you can fit a 35 without anything done to the rear and not hit?

Mc Diesel
10-30-2007, 08:41 PM
2wdchevywt I hope i dont have to do to much to the rear, except for some trimming on the fenders. The rear I am researching for clearance facts, like pullijg the stock sides. Ill probually upgrade to a 373 only because I drive alot or ill be at the dunes. I got first gear to spin the tires Cant wait

You'll need to do some trimming to fit the 35's well in the rear...

2wdchevywt
10-31-2007, 06:05 AM
yea i would suggest putting a block in the rear just because if your bouncing around in the dunes your gonna want to. Your gonna tear that fender all to hell if you leave it stock. You can check out my gallery i have the 4" spindles and a stock rear

yeah a spindle lift would look good on that RCSB you got in your sig, i am happy with my 6" of lift, not too much and i can still fit in parking garages :aniteef:

have they came out with a spindle that you can use with your stock rims with yet? i know the spindles that I used had to have aftermarket wheels and they pushed the track out a little.

well here she is. finally took it to the river bed this weekend, apparently i got my left front brake hose hooked on my outer tie rod end while i was down there. well anyways today when i was pulling into the engineers parking lot to pick up some drawings i made a hard left and popped the line off. broke pretty clean right at the upper connection. i just hope russel will send me a single one, would hate to have to fork out $150.00 for another set.

it will also be used to tow quads out to the desert now that it is lifted, just have to get a receiver on it, and i'm good to go. made it to the desert once lowered on 22's looked pretty comical though.

WOW! After pics before I even get started!

Nice truck. I was trying to picture what my truck would look like with that lift. If I'm reading the tire specs right, is that a 31" tall tire? If so how much room do you have between the tire and fenders? Would you say that a 32" or 33" tall tire could fit in there? Also, how did you recalibrate your speedometer?

Whats up guys. Here is my 2002 GMC Sierra 2wd. Lifted with a 14" bulletproof lift, and CST 4" spindle. 20X10 MB gunner 6 wheels with 39.5 STS tires.

Mostly drive on streets. I pull a car trailer with a track car, but thats about it. No major offroading with her except some dirt trails by my other house out in the desert, but thats it.

Here are some pics. Feel free to comment on it...good or bad.

I can totally believe that. The Katy area is insanely populated and overcrowed, not to mention driving through there is hell.

just curious what is the fender measurement on a 2005 reg cab shortbed 2wd 1500 at stock height?

Reason I am asking is I think that the longbed version sits higher in the rear.

Does anybody know if U must go 17" rims or larger. I have a 2007 silverado classic I am putting the 7" procomp lift on and Theres an asterick that says trucks with factory 17" rims must use 17" or larger rims, does anybody know if that is true, cant find a spare 16" to try it out. Thanks

06SilverSilvy
03-12-2008, 04:50 PM
I believe that is to clear the spindle... 16 inch rims will rub on the spindle.

burnthefurnitur
03-12-2008, 05:33 PM
the reason your 07 has to have larger wheels is the brake system. They upgraded the brakes in 2005 or 2006 i cant remember, but on my 06, with 17 inch rims there is about 1/4th of an inch of clearance btwn the rim and the brake caliper. 16's wont fit because they'll hit the caliper.

4" Fabtech Spindle
2" Rough Country Coil Springs
Fabtech UCAs
2500 HD Springs in the rear with 4" Blocks

35x12.50-15 BFGs on 15x8 steelies (minor trimming)
6 lug conversion on the front
6 lug 14 Bolt SF in the rear with 4.56 gears

I originally had the 3" Fabtech coils, but they were way too stiff and I was tired of how hard the suspension topped out, and the balljoints it ate.

How hard is removing the brake caliper? And where can you buy steel braided brake lines?

dlong05
04-14-2008, 07:44 PM
Removing the brake caliper is not that difficult, as soon as you unbolt the caliper remove it quickly before the pistons come out (they move slowly but once there out it makes it more difficult to get it off) You will need a torx bit i think its like a T60? I'm not sure on that one. To get the ball joints out I used a ball joint splitter with an air hammer or you can use a regular hammer. Then just beat the crap out of the stock spindle until it falls to the ground. If your ball joints or tie rods are bad its a little hard to get the nuts back on them with the new spindle. Just use a pry bar and use the springs to hold down the fitting while you tighten the nuts (they are tapered so the harder you push the better!). If you have any other questions just let me know I put mine on last week it took about 3 hours with the right tools readily available.

dude you can get them about any where but i got pro comp steel braided lines from 4wheel parts but after you get your spindles on measure your old lines then add the difference.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I helped a buddy change the brakes on his '05 dodge the other day.. and we ended up taking the rotor off so we could take it into o reilly's to get smoothed out.. Once we got the caliper off he put the old brake in it to keep the pistons from closing, at least I think? Do I need to do the same thing? And there were two pistons in the dodge caliper, is it the same on a gm?

dlong05
04-17-2008, 09:22 PM
Yeah the GM calipers have two pistons. Once you take the calipers off the rotors it is not a problem to let the pistons push out. When you are ready to put the caliper back on you just use a pair of channel lock pliers to press them closed they will stay pushed back because there is no longer pressure behind them and then you can just slip it right back on the rotor. Make sure to pump your brakes before you drive it.

how much does that tune cost? is it a handheld or do you have to send your module thing in? i plan on putting 4.10s in later on down the road once i go up in tire size...

The tune itself costs $150 for the traditional mail order. However, Black Bear does offer a data logging tune for $200, with a required security deposit in the $200 range. He works directly with tuning your Power Control Module, which is located just left and below your battery with a black plastic cover. It is extremely easy to remove and he will send you directions.

I didn't have time for my truck to sit for a week, so I paid $250 for the tune($150) and a spare PCM($100) and Justin tuned it and sent it to me. The spare is also handy in case I make any more changes and can send it to him to tweak. Check it out and definitely give him a call if you have any more specific questions. http://www.blackbearperformance.com/
