Trans Pan ???'s

I was looking at the trans pan last weekend while changing the oil and noticedthat GM still has it's head up it's anal orifice and still refuses to install a drain plug. Since I plan on doing drain and fills AT LEAST every 30k, maybe sooner I'dlike to get an aluminum ribbed pan with a drain bolt to replace it with when the time comes to change it.

First question, is there any pan differences between the 4L60E and the 4L65E? I've found half a dozen pans for 4L60's but nothing on the newer models.

Second, this is two wheel drive, will a pan designed to hold 2 extra quarts be more susceptible to road debri damage and scraping?

What year is your truck? GM started using drain plugs in 99 and stopped sometime after 02 I know because my dads 02 has a drain plug as well. I know they stopped because the plug was useless. It was made of some soft metal and was put in so tight that almost nobody could get the damn thing out. On my dads we were able to get it out by driving a socket on it and impacting it, on my brothers 99 once we got the pan off I welded a nut to the plug and impacted it out that way since the head was already rounded off. We put a new plug in and tightened it but didn't put a 12 foot cheater on it like they did from the factory. But I'm pretty sure GM stopped putting plugs in the last few years. The pan isn't hard to drop, just messy. If you can get to the bolts you can take the shifter cable bracket off or loosen it and move it out of the way then the pan will come right off, otherwise its a nightmare and you spill that **** everywhere. On my dads I pried the bracket over with a bar while he pulled the pan off because there was no easy way to get to the bolts on his Z71.

There's should be no difference in the pan bolt pattern, just in the depth. The car tranny's usually use a shallow pan compared to the truck pan's.

I also have the Derale. I think you'll have a hard time finding a comparable pan for close to the same price.

I purchased a TCI cast +2qts pan for my 95. Super nice fit, and it came with the mounting bolts. I will take a cast pan over a stamped anyday. You don't have to worry about overtighting and bending the rails.
