I have a 5.3L/323 Chevy Silverado and i just bought some gibson stailess steel silver ceramic coated shorty headers (GIB-GP115S-C). I dont want to have to worry about header bolts backing out but im having trouble finding them. Can someone give me an ARP part number or a good enough description that i can find them on my own. Im not sure what they are called but ive heard people descibe them as having a "x" or cross on the end of the bolt. If anyone could help me find some good bolts i would really appreciate it.
I also have heard of people doubling up on the gaskets. Is this wise to do b/c i was planning on getting new heat resistent gaskets and am wondering now if i should get two pair. If anyone has had really good luck with a certain pair please feel free to comment.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Jeff

I used the gaskets that came with my Gibson's, never had a leak.

i like those breslin bolts but when i was going through summit it didnt show them available for my truck. Are header bolts pretty much universal or does the engine make a difference. I have a 5.3L/323 if it makes a diffence. What other places can you buy these things besides jegs and summit?

those breskin locks....look good but am very wary of allan bolt siezeing/rusting inside the header bolt to the point you cant get allan screw out and causeing a major headache...any feed back from anyone thats had these on for little while plz

These should be pretty much the same. You can buy those just about anywhere you can get performance parts.

I just tighten the header bolts up when the engine is hot. I haven't touched mine in 6 months. But the collectors are another story.

what about the stage 8 bolts and fasteners...anyone had those a while and have any problems with them? And a second question...is it even worth getting some bolts that dont back out...do you really have to tighten the regular bolts that often?

I am using the bolts that came with my Thorley headers.... haven't had any problems with the bolts that hold the headers to the block at all. I've only had to retighten a collector bolt once -- don't know why it came loose in the first place.

I've noticed that motors with a 'solid' hung exhaust system, tons of torque and a lead foot have a tendacy to losen bolts because of the added pressure put on the bolts.
