Im putting a Magnaflow #12259 with stock pipes and a 4" Magnaflow rolled tip on my 5.3L tommorow. I will try to post a sound clip of it this week because I havent been able to find a sound clip of that muffler on a 5.3L Later!

Here's the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i92Azi7gyhM

It sound better than I could have imagined. I was looking for a deep sound, with NO drone (yes folks, there is ZERO drone in the cab when cruising) but when I get on it it is loud and deep. This is the exact sound I was going for an I acheived it. At idle you can hear it but it's not loud in the cab.

I went with the Magnaflow #12259 18" muffler with a 4x12" Magnaflow rolled tip and the stock pipes.

This is my first mod to the truck, but I have only had it for 2 weeks today. A tune is next! Thanks guys!

I felt a SOP difference in the high end.

Yes, I just replaced the stock muffler.

I bought the Muffler for 75$ shipped and the tip for 30$ shiped off ebay, brand new.

Thanks for the compliments!

did the 3" mate right up with your factory exhaust pipe?

AuburnTiger
09-27-2006, 03:41 PM
Well the stock pipe is 2.75". But the guys at the muffler shop didnt say anything about it not working, and the welds and fitment look great, so Im going to say yes they mated quite nicely:smokin:

Congrats - I'm still on the fence with my exhaust decision, but your Magnaflow has my attention.

What eBay vendor did you use for your purchases? Got a ballpark on your installation price?

Thanks for your help and good luck with the new sound :head:

Thanks for the compliments!

The ebay store I used is http://stores.ebay.com/Performance-Peddler

Probably the best Ebay experience I have had is with that seller. Great prices and super fast shipping.

Installation was 70$ for 45 minutes of shop time.

Here in Alabama everyone has a Chevy with Flows or straights. Every truck sounds exactly the same. I wanted a different sound and it's the best exhaust I have heard on a 5.3L. It sounds 10x better in real life than it does on the clip. The clip was made on a digital camera, so the sound if very distorted and kinda raspy and the real sound does not contain any raspiness. Just a deep growl.

Excellent! because of this post, I went out and got one. Well, the muffler shop got it for me. I had them weld on the new Magnaflow and weld a dump right after the muffler. So you can't even see my exhaust. It's a nice clean look that goes with my new roll pan. And I love the sound. Just like you said, sounds stock at idle, but when you get on it, it wakes up. I didn't really feel a performance difference, but I really wasn't expecting one either. I mainly wanted the sound and clean look.

I love my Magnaflow too I have the DI/Do Tru X core style there is no drone too and it is hella deep and smooth. Magnaflow is a great brand indeed!

The reason theres no drone is because its not a loud muffler, or even cloose to it ... sounds decent though.

I will have to disagree with you. Loud is certainly relative. No it is not as loud as Flows, but I can light em up in the student parking lot here at Auburn and set off car alarms as I drive by. Pretty loud when you get on the skinny!

I also got a magnaflow 3 weeks ago, after listening to the clip. I got a 3" in, dual 2.5" out at 90 deg behind each tire, standard 2.5" tips. It does have a different sound, deep, performance tone, not loud at all IMO. With my crew cab, it almost sounds louder in the cab than outside, I'm undecided if I want to keep it as of now.
Just thought I'd share

Howdy,
I am having the same second thoughts about my MagnaFlow. I also have the single in and dual out on my 04, Z-71 with the 5.3. It is high pitched, raspy, and crackles. I had a FlowMaster Delta 50 before and it sounded much better. I am not impressed with the sound of the Magna at all. I said it once before and will repeat it again, the Magna is just a glass pack muffler with an oval stainless case. It is just a different shaped Cherry Bomb with a much higher price tag. My next muffler will be a FlowMaster Super 40. Have a goodun!!!!

Ross i have the super 40 on my truck. its a DI/DO and it sounds mean and it has this deep sound. just wait till it breaks in and your truck will come alive. youll get noticed alright.

IMO, the Magnaflow just makes a lot of Roar. If that's what you like fine. I prefer a muffler that Roars less but brings out the power pulses of the motor more, like a Dynomax Bullet, or even any of the flowmaster 40, or 50 series, that produce a bit of a rap also. I think the new Flow Super 40 is now probably the Best of the bunch.

I think when I get a chance I will just have the shop cut it off and put dual straights. I like stuff a little louder than most maybe, but yesterday I couldn't even hardly hear the truck idle when I let it warm up.

I just got my magnaflow put on today (3" in/out 4x9x14) and it's great. My biggest worry was drone on the highway and this has absolutely none, unless i gas it up! I have another brand new/unused one for sale if anyone is interested.

Auburn,

Loved the sound clip! Just received mine in the mail today from the same Ebay sellers you bought yours. Super fast shipping and awesome communication. I plan on having them installed on Monday. Could you send me a closer pic of the exhaust tip from the back? I have a 03' Sierra and my tip goes straight out, but I like the slant they put on yours. Thanks!!
