Well im think im plagued by the old header tick. I recently bought some stainless header and get the old tick tick under a load when drivin it. I tried fel pro gaskets twice and recetly installed PERCY eal 4 good. Still get the tick. Im wondering if its where the header meets the exhaust pipe. That part doesnt require gasket.Anyone have any ideas or has anyone delt with this problem?
My truck runs awesome, but trying to eliminate the tick. One other question, i notciced when i removed the stock exhaust manifolds, the back bolt was missing on the drivers side exhaust manifold. But the passenger side isnt. Is that normal or no?

Thanks

Yes where the header meets the exhaust pipe is where its at, i think its called a donut,

not a big deal, try a high quality donut,

another thing , try wrapping your headers in heat wrap,

What exactly is the "tick"? I'm purchasing some ceramic headers soon and am trying to learn as much as possible. Was the install difficult?

the tick is an exhaust leak. but doesnt heat wrap on headers collect moisture and cause them to rust through?

Are you sure its a tick? What type of collectors are on the headers? I always thought I had a tick because of a bad manifold, put headers on, heads looked perfect, put the headers on, no leaks, still a tick. Something in the engine makes a tick and it sounds like an exhaust leak but its not.

Ya it makes a tick under a load, doesnt do it unles you give it more than 1/4 throttle. Also it seems to get quieter after the truck has run for 15 minutes. I put the new percy seal 4 good exhaust gaskets on there so it shouldnt be leaking there. The headers i put on didnt have any gaskets where it met the exhaust below. They were shortys headers. So do they make a donut gasket for these? If they do thats where my problem is i bet. Heres what my headers look like.
The guy i bought these from forgot to include that gaskets on the bottom. I bet thats where its leaking.

Those headers don't take a gasket where they meet the y-pipe. I just installed some and they just seal with pressure from the flanges. I also have the tick though but I can't locate it with a stethoscope, so it may just be coming from the thin tubing. I bought cheap Summit headers.

You think exhaust wrap will help cure that?

No it wasnt bad at all to install them.

But if you get the header tick it sounds :lame:

I will be working on finding out where its coming from more tommorow evening

Well i got this morning and took my truck to work. No tick at all.
I dont know what happen, only thing i can think is the percy aluminum seal 4 good gaskets i put on sealed up the leak. I hope it stays that way. :head: I will see during the corse of the week if anything changes.

So did you notice a performance difference w/ the shorties?

I did the cam, intake , headers , coil etc all at once. Huge difference in power. But i did all the mods at the same time so i cant tell you on the header part
