Is there anyway to figure out exactly what your idle is supposed to be at. Like using say inches of mercury ?

are you talking about vacuum or engine rpms?

Sorry I'll clearify, I'd like to know how to set the proper idle using RPM. A stock motor is supposed to idle at 650(standard tranny) but with my cam i was told it wont idle that low?

My idle is low, it is around 500 in park and goes down to 300 when I put it in drive. Its probably the guage that is not accurate because that seems too low.

you will need a hand held tach to check idle speed. on tbi trucks there is a loose connector called a tach lead coming off the coil gray connector. you hook up the handheld tach there. chech idle speed. to adjust it there is an idle stop screw assembly on the throttle body next to the throttle lever. you will need to remove the stop screw plug to adjust the screw. depending on your actual rpms may not be able to adjust it down to stock rpms due to cam, which might effect drivability. might need to program chip for higher idle to fix driveability issues.

The cam manufacturer should be able to tell you.
