Need Some Info Please!

Well, I got my subwoofers hooked back up in my new truck today and dang they are loud! I had these woofers in my 98 reg cab and they were plenty loud and now they are a ton louder, what happened? I got them hooked up at the same place as I did the first time and used the same amp. The only thing I could think of( and keep in mind i know nothing about this stuff) is I know you can wire at 4 ohms and a 500 watt would just send 125 to both, so if they wired to 2 ohms would that send 250 to each woofer and explain the loudness, or is that even possible? Sorry this is so long but I need some replies before I go def! :)

yeah, you're on the right path. think of impedance as resistance, and ohms are the unit of measure for that resistance. the more resistance you have the less power you have, so when you cut your impedance from 4 ohms to 2 you are in a sense doubling you power.

now... does this apply to your set up, i don't know. can you be more specific on exactly what you have, and i will do my best to help. :D

by the way... when you run at a lower impedance, your amp runs hotter, and your signal isn't as clean. careful.

I have got a Rockford Fosgate 500a2 amp and 2 10in Rockford Fosgate HE2 Subwoofers, they are hooked to the stock radio and are in a truck box behind my seat (reg cab). It is hard to stay in there anymore with some of the rap CDs ive got, even with the bass turned all the way down! When they were in my old truck you could turn the bass down alot more than you can in this truck. The reason it puzzles me is because the setup is exactly the same for all I know anyway so if anybody could help me please do!

The HE2 is a Dual voic coil speaker....

if you ran positive from the amp to all four positve teminals and negative to all four Negatives then you are at 1 Ohm....

Ton more power 4 times..... 4 times the distortion (not a huge factor with subs) 4 times the heat to disperse somewhere!

Most rockford amps will do this fine... they will simply cut off (thermal protection) after a while.

It is possible to wire two dual voice coils as

1-Ohm
4-Ohm
16-Ohm


Resistance in parallel >>> (1/Rtotal)=(1/R1) +(1/R2).......

in Series simply add the resistance's up Rtotal=R1+R2......
