I hope this helps explain how I modified an 01 console and put it in my 99 hoe.
this pic show how the whole looks put together

this show the bondo over the mdf @ the dash
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i99/puckhauler/console008.jpg
this show how I put 3/4 mdf on each side of the factory console to make sure the connection wouldn't move
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i99/puckhauler/console014.jpg
this is important...I used long fiber bondo (green stuff) completely around the connection @ the factory console. This area will crack if you don't use long fiber to reinforce the connection.

I made brace out of a hurricane strap from Home Depot, then drilled holes to match the old hole location and used the old bolts to secure to the floor.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i99/puckhauler/console005.jpg
I used 1/8" hardboard to make the deck area where the screen sits.
http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i99/puckhauler/console013.jpg
the finished project installed.

I used spray texture to match the plastic in the interior and used SEM paint to match. I sure hope this helps you guys, let me know if I can help.....

It was a lot of work but I mainly did it just to see if I could. I had seen other examples and just wanted to give it a try.

Looks insane, great job.
Looks nice - but jeez, loads of work - how many hours did that take away from your work and family? I just don't have enough time to do stuff like this - too bad.

I'm an old fart, kids are @ college and plan major projects like this for the winter months when I can do them in the garage. I know I'm not up north, but it still gets to cold for most outdoor things, lol.

ok i'm in the sanding stage of mine and i bought my metal for brackets tonight ;) My problem is I cannot get the rear cup holder to come off the console so that I can get to the two screws in there to remove the storage spot in the center :(

I didn't have to remove that cupholder, all the screws for the storage box are in the lip under the cover.
Sorry, I just looked at my storage box. It was a while back and I forgot how I did it. I just went out to my truck, there are 2 small black tabs on each side of the cupholder. Take a small screwdriver and push them in as you press down on the cupholder. This will allow the cupholder to swing down out of the way and you can get a screwdriver on the screws for the storage box. Let me know how it turns out. Good luck.....

what about the two screws that go into the rear bottom of the storage box

when the cupholder swings down, you can get a screwdriver on the 2 small screws going in the back of the storage box.

Lucky dog. Don't get me wrong, I love being a dad, but it sure does take up all your time if you are going to do it right!
Again, nice job on the project.

I don't know why you couldn't. Start with OBS console and build what you want all the way to the dash.

That looks sweet but what did you do for the power ports in the dash, where'd you relocate them to?

Then again i might just be better off just to build a seperate box and mount it up there. But i sure do like the looks of your. So did you just make your frame out of the particle board and then put bondo on top of it to give it that smooth finish or how did you do it? Sorry for all the questions.

x2^ Did you take the original console and mod'd it to fit or did you take a sketch and build a seperate one?
I would like to do this in my 95 except with a NBS Escalade console :)
neptune1230

The best way to begin is to set the new console in place and take some cardboard and run it straight to dash. Play with different ideas in cardboard until you get it like you want and then you have a template to cut the mdf. Then bondo over the top, sand and paint.

what paint and techniques did you use to give it the textured look
neptune1230
02-21-2007, 06:07 PM
I used SEM "texture coating" #39853 and SEM "color coat" #15393 med. gray to match my interior.

Where did you buy your paint?

There is an automotive paint store here in town that carries those products.
