View Full Version : Ok, photoshop junkies... something's up with my color settings

This is really weird. First off, I've been running CS2 for a while now.

I don't recall changing my color settings, but something is definitely unusual here. When I go to use the color picker, I'm used to the square display being white in the upper left, black across the bottom and a solid color in the upper right. The vertical bar with the slider to the right of the square would then range through the colors. If I moved the slider on the vertical bar down, the upper right corner of the square would change to match the slider position.

Sometime within the past month or so, this changed and I don't know why. Now, all of the colors are showing in the square and the vertical bar ranges from white at the top to black at the bottom. If the vertical slider is at the top, the square takes on pastel colors -- blue green in the lower left to green in the upper left, through yellow to orange across the top to the upper right and down into pink in the bottom right, and the bottom center is white. If the vertical slider is at the bottom in the black, the upper left corner is black, the upper right corner is a dark red and the lower left corner is dark blue with a purplish color in the lower right.

I'm sorry, but after all of these years in PS, it's just a PITA for me to read and find the desired colors in this setup. Do any of my fellow PhotoShop junkies know what settings I've grown accustomed to?

Cool. If you uncheck the "Only Web Colors" box, there's more of a blend from corner to corner. That's exactly what I'm after. Here's where I'm at now. With the vertical slider at the top, I get this:

And with the vertical slider at the bottom, I get this:

I can't figure out how to get it back to what you've got! :banghead:

Izzy -- would you please post a screenshot of your current color settings from the edit pulldown menu?

Ok, that all matches up... :think: If you go into the color selector again and hit the color libraries button, what does that give you?

BTW -- thanks for helping me out here :thumbup:

Nevermind... changing things in there doesn't fix it either... :banghead:

My color picker is also set to Adobe. The only differences I have in that screen is that my history states are set to 40 and I activated "zoom with scroll wheel".

Fixed it!! :happy::happy::happy:

I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner.

I simply went into

C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings\

and wiped out the preferences before restarting Photoshop. It's all back to normal now! :rocking:

Thanks for looking into it though, Iz! I owe ya one. :cheer:
