Has anyone put any dampening mat or ensolite underneath the dash cap? Did it fit ok? Did it have much of an effect?

i did. i'm not sure if it helped or not because i'm still not finished yet with the whole deadening project. i just put a layer of RAAMmat on it. it does have a more solid feel and sound to it and that is good enough for me.

How do you take the top of the dash off like that? I've also thouhgt about doing a 3-way set up with a 4 in the top by the a/c vents, a tweet in the pillar and 6.5 in a kick

Dunno if referencing another forum is okay or not, but here's the directions:

It's actually quite easy. Makes stuffing a bunch of stereo/electronic components and wires in the dash so much easier.

if you follow the Directions in the link above, just know you dont need to unclip the grab bar above the airbag to take it out, the dash comes out fine with that still on.

Also, they don't tell/show you this in that link, but I have found you also have to take the A-pillar trim off as well since it clips firmly to the dash.

Thinking about putting a layer of ensolite on top of it as well. Thoughts about this?

Do it. I think the Ensolite might make more of a difference than the deadener (except at high levels when your dash is jumpin'). If it were more cosmetic, I'd throw a layer of Ensolite on top of it as well. If you think of a way to paint, cover, or make that look acceptable let me know!

Lol, well I meant on top of the deadener, under the dash. Either way though, I've heard that something to cover the outside of the dash helps a lot, but dash mats are so ugly. I've seen one over on diyma that was halfway decent looking, but still not really my style.

Definitely ugly, but if you fabbed your own it might not be.

Maybe I missed something, but why mat your dash?

I piece of plastic that big is going to rattle bad and create all sorts of resonance if not tamed down. Mostly under high power situations...1500+ watts, but even with my old setup the dash was rattling before i had deadener on it.

What I figured, thanks.

Anyone ever removed their dash to deaden the firewall all the way up to the window? Im assuming most people only deaden so high, because the dash is in the way.

I would not recommend removing your dash for that purpose. :) It looks like it would be a real pain in the ass. I'd just try to get it up as high as you care to from the bottom.

If I was super serious about sound deadening I would, the dash is pretty easy to take out on these trucks. There is already a blanket there (not that great but better than nothing), so that would be one of the last places.

Yes, a lot of people deaden their firewalls as well. If you're going all out, you might as well do it all. I hear doing the firewall helps a lot with noise...

Positive Im going to do the firewall, doesn't seem that bad. It should cut out engine noise and heat. I would think its a must for people who spend time to deaden the whole interior to include the firewall.

I need to add some more mat to my order.
