03+ Dash Conversion

Hello All,

I'm new to this forum, and was hoping to find some help here. I have a 2001 LT Suburban that I wish to do a double din DVD/Nav system in. I have heard of a few people who have done some sort of conversion to the newer style 03+ double din dash. I am looking to learn what all this conversion takes. I would like the install to look as clean and OEM as possible. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much!

I've tried searching for it before I posted ... didn't find anything. .. Can anyone please help me on this?

It all depends on what you are converting too. The upscale 03 models came with electronic digital dual climate systems which were totaly different wiring compared to 02. So the heating and cooling system behind the dash will give you some issues unless you kept your old system in. I know the hole for the 03 is much larger to accept the double din setup so your gonna need the whole dash or modify your existing dash which I would not recommend. On star will have to be moved or removed if you have it equiped.

But the major problem is the computer and instrument setup. They are totaly different. In the 03 you have a driver info center in the 02 and 01 you only have the message center. Im not 100 percent on this but the two are not interchangeable.

So im summary you might have to modify your current dash to accept the double din. Because swaping out even the entire dash isnt as simple as remove and exchange.

Hope this helps, and I hope someone does know a way to do this without a ton of work.
