View Full Version : installing an aftermarket radio in 2000 silverado... anything to consider?
I want to change my stock radio with a Pioneer DEHP 2900MP. I was going to get it installed at Circuit city. I know that they are going to hit me with another $18 or so for the wire harness.
Is this a basic install? I have heard some rumors that I will have problems with the stock security system of the truck. Truck not starting? Door chimes not working? Any of this true? Give me your opinions please

Just put it in yourself. Once you have the harnesses soldered together it honestly takes 15 minutes start to finish.
The radio is $115 installed. I was just worried about some of the things that I have heard about the stock radio having some security features that when changed out cause problems. Any truth to this?

Mine has been in for two years and I have never had any problems. Everything works just like it did with the stock unit.

Ok, thanks for the advice. You guys were right but now I have a little issue. My speakers in my doors are blown. I guess I kinda knew that they were but it was never really an issue with the lower wattage stock radio. Now it is really noticeable. I wanted to get your opinions on what to replace them with. The new radio is 50wx4 at 22RMS. I want them to be the same size as what's in there now. I rather not have to modify anything and I wanted them to sound great without breaking the bank. It's a 200 silverado btw and there are 2 speakers per door, one 4"ish and the other is a little oval one. I'm going to post this question again to make sure I get as much opinions as possible. Feel free to answer here and I'll check both.
Thanks again fellas.

The small speaker is the factory tweeter. I just left mine unplugged. I think you can put in up to 6" speakers without modification, but I'm not sure, its been awhile since I put mine in.

I'm running Infinity Kappas separates in the stock locations. Got them off EbaY for 80. I'm currently sending 250 crossovered watts their way and they sound great.

That headunit doesn't really do 22w...
Really need a budget and whether or not you'd be open to installing an amp as some speakers (the ones that usually sound best) require it.
