I was thinking of painting the outer shell of my amp to match my trucks exterior color. I know that I have seen this done, but would this affect the cooling of the amp?

it shouldnt as long as you oly paint outer shell and do not cover any necesary holes for fans etc
at least id think it woul work that way

Thanks for the input. They are old RF amps that look like sh*t, but still rock hard. I have had them for 13 years so if they poop out on me it will give me a reason to upgrade!

Just don't paint the heat sinks and you are ok. The heat sinks look like fins and are there to release the heat from the fets to the air. If you paint them, you will cause your amp to overheat and possibly blow. They look like fins on the old RF amps. Which amp exactly are you gonna paint?

I have a Punch 400 and 500(old school). I wasn't the first owner, but I have had them for about 13 years or so, and they still rock regardless of what speakers I am running. I wanted to clean them up. The entire face of these are nothing but huge finned heat sinks, and these things are always hot, even if I have my stereo at low volume. I think this was before amp designers understood the theory of fans.
