just wondering if anyone was running a nitrous kit on a relatively stock 5.3,I have an 06 Z-71 an was wondering if my engine would hold up if i bought the kit an set it up for 100 shot only after 3,000 rpms an never during a shift i believe they make a kit for this like electronically injected nitrous.also i have an intake an exhaust with no cats an just an X-pipe.an i'm plannin on gettin a wester's custom tune.just wondering how fast do ya'll think my truck would be an if i only used the nitrous like every now an again like maybe 2 runs a week on spray do ya'll think it will hold up.because someone told me they ran through 10 bottles in one year an they got 16 runs off of a bottle an their truck runs fine.an i was thinking instead of spraying 100 shot maybe tune it down to like 50 or 75 shot.any advice on what i could do to my truck for a reasonable amount(i have $2,500) that will make it fast.hopin to run in the 13s.

We are going over alot of these topics right now in this thread. Is your truck a RC, EC, or CC? Around a 100 shot, your engine internals will be fine. However, there is always that chance your tranmission won't make it. Two runs a week won't be too hard on the motor. If you want to upgrade to a 150 shot, then you are going to be putting ALOT of stress on everything and something will break eventually. Don't plan on going down a spray size...I don't think I've ever seen anyone have enough will power to do that...haha!

i hear ya,i seen that thread i read it.i was just really wondering if the quarter time would be impressive enough to even worry about it.because if i ain't gunna be in the 13s then i ain't worried about it.mainly just wanna beat my friends F-250 so he will shut up about it,the dang thing has blown 2 head gaskets, his turbo went out,his 4 wheel drive quit working,an his ac is out as we speak.

Good luck to get into the 13's with a 100 shot. I have a full load 98 K1500 ext cab short box, 3.73 gears, 20's. I hit it with 12 psi and it is nowhere near 13's. They are just too heavy.

You are more than likely in the 16's right now. A 100-150 shot is usually good for ~ 1.0-1.5 seconds off your time...

i forgot to mention i want to get headers,i already have an intake,i wanna get a westers custom tune for nitrous.an i have no cats with an x-pipe now an actually i run high 15s with just the intake an exhaust.oh an i want to get a cam.i figured with all this i should be able to run in the high 13 range.

What is your 60 foot time and the MPH crossing the trap now?

I was lookin at gettin nitrous too and am curious what would be safe for my stock 5.3. I have a Radix, headers w/o cats dual exhaust, ram air, vette servos w/transgo, and i do plan on puttin a cam in in a few months. hehe! all the help would be much appreciated

Supercharged motors love Nitrous. Nitrous cools the intake charge and has the same effect as an intercooler. Sounds like you are trying to squeeze the last ounce out of your motor. Forget about the cam. Spray it.

thanks blown68 but isnt both spray and cam an option for me? I wouldnt be or dont think i will be spraying too often, I dont go to the track or anything I just want to go when I want to go.

Sure. Bigger cam, stiffer valve springs, higher stall, on and on. If drivability and $$ is not a concern, non-issue. Spray is on demand. I think you get the point.

sounds good to me! Now my next question is which cam setup to go with? Brand, size of cam etc.. I have spent some time lookin around the forums but am still not sure wat to get if I was to put nitrous and cam in my ride..

How fast do you want to go? Either way, a split duration cam is best for nitrous...

The 5.3 should handle anything up to a 150 wet shot without any major modifications. Just make sure you get all the safety gadgets.

Anything over a 100 shot is when stuff WILL break. Anything up to a 100 shot stuff could potentially break but you will probably be safe...

i would probably go with 75-100 shot with what cam, I don't know yet. I don't plan on pushin the button to often. How is your cam in your truck thiems.

if you're extremely lucky, the engine itselft might hold on for a bit, but the 4l60e will just laugh at you.

If you dont think it will hold what do you recommend I do for my trans setup so it would last for my mods

I love this cam in my truck and I don't even have a converter for it. Once it hits 3000 rpms it will absolutely scream. The downshifts are very nice too. Plus it gets alot of looks loping through parking lots and such...

A shift kit and Vette servo would be a good start and would be about all that you could do unless you know alot about transmissions (personally, I don't feel comfortable going past a shift kit in a tranny). The main thing is not to spray through the shifts. That is why I recommend a digital window switch that will shut it on/off when you need to.

Babies still go fast! You can't find any kind of supercharger/turbocharger system and get the proper upgrades needed for $2500. $400 (nitrous) > $5,000+ (boost packages)

You might want to check out the Lingenfelter GT2-3 cam. It is a popular and proven cam for boosted applications.

In an ideal condition, a 5000 lb vehicle requires ~370 to the rear wheel to get into the 13's. Traction, air density, aero dynamics, parasitic loss, drive line efficiency, what other factors?? I am 100% my truck doesn't have 370 to the wheels.

I am very aware it takes good conditions to move a half ton that quick.. I will check into that type of cam.. I am open to all opinions and comments..I like everybody else loves haulin ass

The few people who know my cam specs think I'm crazy but my torque curve looks like this ---------------- so I'm happy. For a custom cam, cheaper than an off the shelf grind, send this man an email and tell him the whippled tahoe from kc sent you. :smokin:
