I am going to start building my '94 GMC Sierra. I have 170k on it and the only thing original is engine and rear end. Since I cannot sell this truck for even what I have stuck into much less blue book I have decided to have fun with it.
First up is a new engine. I was looking at a few crate engines from jegs. I can get a new crate engine for 3.5k or a replacement TBI for 1.6k.
What do you guys think about just getting a replacement TBI and supercharging it?
Eventually my truck will end up with new engine, 6in suspension lift and a 2 inch body lift.
Is this a good idea? Any other ideas?

For ease of replacement itd be better to go with the TBI motor, but i guess if you're not weary of electrical systems - go with a crate and different injection setup, vortec maybe? I like my TBI but theres just so much more potential in the vortec world.
as for the lift, right on!

what about a supercharged tbi? is it possible? A supercharger would give me the low end torque for mudding and handle a lift better but would it rip my engine apart?

What would I have to do to a TBI to supercharged it?

IMO buy a stock rebuilt vortec for $1200, stick a cam in it and drop it in. Keep TBI, they make super chargers and stuff

I know but if I have to modify a stock TBI to be able to handle a supercharger or can I just put it on?

Do you have source(s) for this deal? I may want to check them out to see how extensive their rebuilds are. I was thinking a new $2200 L31 for for mine when the time comes.
And yes, it WILL get a cam and springs before it goes in ;)

Nothing. You can easily bolt on a supercharger and run 5-6psi with a stock TBI.

Isnt't that a direct tbi replacement?
Say I wanted to put rockers in a cam in the new engine. What should I get and would that mean putting a smaller pully on?

And what is a good supercharger company for our trucks? Whipple? Or is there better ones?
I want to go new gm crate because I can go pick it up. No shipping charges.

I have never heard anyone complain about a Whipple. Sure they're not intercooled but you can solve that problem with a water/methanol injection kit. I love mine but it's a Vortec. There are some WhippleCharged TBI guys on here. Come on boys help this guy out.

or you could move away from the rest of the flock by getting a crate 350 and throwing a totally different injection system on it, like Holley's Stealth Ram or Super Ram....they make really good power too...and can also be S/C'd
