So I have my old alpine HU sitting in my room from when I traded my 00. I wanted to put the hu with ipod hookup into the SS. I go to bestbuy and the guy says, umm well you cant run an aftermarket HU with the BOSE system unless you want us to bypass the speakers individually and that still might not work. Anyways, he told me to bypass the speakers, with the new harness and this and that it was gonna be like $350 or something, ( not including HU) . I'm not experienced in the audio world and this just didnt sound right. PLEASE tell me this isnt true.

The model # of my Alpine is 9852. I bought it 2years ago and its really a great HU but if it dosent work on the SS then I have no use for it. Please let me know what the deal is.

Yep it's true. Bose systems are a PITA. A plug and play harness will not work. Your Alpine will work in the SS but you just have to either tap into the factory wires after the Bose amp or run new wires from the HU to each speaker. It is mot very hard to do it is just time consuming. If someone on here knows what color wires are what it will make tapping into the factory wires alot easier.

Yes , u can run the deck in the truck without having to bypass the amplifier. you just need the correct harness to do so. If i remember correctly you should be able to use the metra Gmrc01 and just power up the factory amplifier. If that doesn't work then I know that the metra gmos4 will work (its just kinda a waste cause you wont be using the onstar portion of the interface).

I ran into the same problem with my aurora. I wanted to put a new head unit in, as well as all new speakers. The problem? BOSE speakers are designed for 2 ohms of resistance, while 99% of aftermarket audio requires 4 ohms. Therefore you have to run all the proper wire.

Same issue on my girl's Mustang. All I needed was the propper wiring harness, sounds better then ever using the factory amps.

Thanks for all your help guys. I have checked the prices on the parts I need..Harness- $100, Antenna adapter- $15 , harness for the steering wheel controls to work- $69.99, then the dash kit- $15. I paid $150 for the HU and the install was free then another $15 for the ipod hookup. I honestly cant see myself paying $200 for just the accessories then paying another $60 for the install(ballpark). I'm probably going to keep the stock HU and just get an ipod adapter to run off the cigarette lighter. Sucks I'm not going to be able to use my alpine so I guess I'm going to sell it. Thanks again

do not, i repeat, do not use a fm modulator for your ipod. spend $100-150 for a dedicated input to the radio. trust me.

Nom I know what you guys mean, my brother has one and it sounds like ****. The one I'm thinking of getting is an actual cradle that you can put the imput part of your ipod into. One of my friends has one and it has good quality, so how much does a modulator cost me?
