What exhaust to get???

Im goin to be gettin a new truck soon (i hope) but dont know what exhaust to get that will give me the most power. I want one thats not so loud that its defing but i want to be able to be heard clearly goin down main street. The truck will be either a GMC or chevy if that matters and it will be a gas engine.

On my '86 Chevy I did Edelbrock shorty headers to dual cat-less 3in custom exhaust piping, 4in stainless outlet to each side. Sounded pretty damn good.
